Default Movies that you HATED until you actually watched them...

Everyone has preconceived notions about movies before they seem them, if ever. This ranges from casting decisions, cast members, crew, music, story, a bad trailer or just word of mouth.

So, if any of you are like me, and some days just seem to drag and are really boring, you breakdown and watch something, anything, just because there is nothing else to really do.

All that said, what movies do you now have a differing opinion on, now that you've actually watched that movie?
Also, You can include movies that are as bad as expected or even worse after watching them...

The Matrix: The reason I hated this for the longest time was because of a stupid MTV Awards Show... It won Best Fight when it went up against The Phantom Menace. Seriously? People shooting at each other is somehow better than actual talent in Sword Play?

Fight Club: I was NOT a fan of Brad Pitt. Until late one night on HBO, I decided to give it a go and was blown away. Great twist ending too... As I had DirecTV at the time, just as it finished airing, the West Coast Feed came on and I watched it again straight away, and it was really interesting seeing it again right away, knowing how everything happened.

Catch Me If You Can: Kind of the same as the above... Was not a Leo fan. He seemed like he was just a teeney bopper/boy band actor. I was flipping through the channels and saw a preview for this on StarZ, I think, and it looked really interesting. I gave it a shot. I liked the movie.

King Kong: Tried watching... worse than I thought it would be.

The Happening:

I always said Titanic was one of Cameron's weakest films, and it was mediocre, blah blah blah. Obviously just because it was immensely popular I wanted to dislike it, but then I finally saw it (I had seen bits and pieces before) and absolutely loved it. It's fantastic and has an old-school feel to it that you don't get much nowadays.

I still have never seen it. I most likely never will. I know how it ends. he dies, she throws the necklace away... people talked so much about that film that I felt like I saw the bloody thing.
Another I won't watch... also by shamalamadingdong is The 6th Sense. I know twist, was spoiled for me back in HighSchool... neer had the urge to watch it after hearing it.

Eh, I know the twist too, but I still want to watch the film someday.

DAREDEVIL (Director's Cut): All I had heard, for years and years, was how horrible this movie was. It's atrocious. It's one of the worst movies ever made. Ben Affleck should be decapitated!

On top of that, I had never been a Marvel fan. In my years of comics collecting it had always been about 99% DC. So, I had a built-in anti-Marvel bias.

On top of that, I had never really seen Affleck in anything that I thought was even decent.

Then, one day I'm sitting there with a few gallons of vodka and nothing at all to do on a Saturday. I decide, heck, why the F not? I'll watch DAREDEVIL. And damn if that isn't a pretty entertaining, fun, good movie!

I'm definitely glad I gave it a chance. Of course, I've been a big J-Ga fan since the very first scene of "Alias" back in the day. But DAREDEVIL is good stuff.

Kill bill was one that I stayed away from for years. When I watched the trailer, it just seemed cheesy to me. It wasnt til I got into bluray and reading all the wonderful things that everybody here on bluray.com had to say about it, that I finally watched it and loved it. I was very close minded about tarantino period, that changed when I seen both kill bill movies. Now he is my fav director.

Can't say I have ever had that strong an opinion about something I haven't seen yet, but I've been pleasantly surprised going to movies for someone else from time to time, like a children's movie or chick flick that turned out good

I tend not to hate anything I don't know about. Sure I have expectations before the film based on what I've seen i.e. promotional material, sequels, originals. But I don't think I can out and out hate anything I haven't seen, the world is too big and time is too little to really hate anything, nevermind a film that hadn't taken any of my time anyway.

It's the closest thing to "What if we ever had a GOOD Shyamalan* film?"
In fact, we only had two, and Bruce Willis was in both.

I'm also amazed at the forgiving nature of posters who have now, apparently, in the years since, suddenly gone out and watched the Harry Potter films, as they once swore they never would, but should have all along.

----
* - You don't make the lame joke with this movie. You shouldn't anyway, as it's a high-school red-flag and older now than "Cops in donut shops", but if Nightie was a one-hit wonder, this was the One.
And for the shmillionth time, the 50's song was "Ram-alamadingdong". We can post the YouTube of the song(s) again, with lyrics onscreen, if need be.

Same here but for me it's been recent comedies. I went into things like Role Models, Horrible Bosses and The Other Guys thinking 'meh, maybe there will be some okayish parts' and wound up laughing my ass off. Bad Teacher even had some really funny moments.

I don't think there's much close about it: I think it's very good. And it holds up very well to repeat viewings.

My only complaint about The Sixth Sense is that it overshadowed Stir of Echoes which was also quite good.

Halloween III: Season of The Witch, I always heard how much it sucked since Michael Myers wasn't in it so I did not give it a chance. After I read what John Carpenter wanted to do after Halloween II and have an annual Hallloween movie using different themes I decided to give it a chance, now it's my favorite after the original and made me a big Tom Atkins fan.

Nothing really comes to mind. There are some movies I'll have complete disinterest in due to who is involved such as an actor or director I don't like.

I did end up liking Ted, despite me not liking either Mark Wahlberg or Seth MacFarlane. Even so, it's not like I had any hate toward it before seeing it.

Currently, I do strongly dislike any and all ideas surrounding the new TMNT movie, so we'll see how that one plays out
