Please use the search tool to look for this answer. There should also be stickies on this.
And for your info, 1080p is the best, I prefer "p" over "i" anytime... 720p would be my personal choice but it is all up to you! If you like 1080i more, go for it. If you need to understand the difference between "p" and "i" more, check other threads. |

Not to beat the dead horse here, but when I first got my TV in May 2006 I think I preferred 720p. Now I think I prefer 1080i. Most of the time though I don't think I can really tell the difference, and I think I am telling myself I like one over the other.
Also I use DirecTV and a lot of their HD broadcasts aren't the greatest, at least that is what I heard. I don't have cable HD so I cannot compare, but I know before they launched their 2 new sats they had bandwidth issues. Also some stations like TNT happen to have a crappy signal, so maybe my 1080i HBO looks better than my 720p TNT (at least I think TNT is 720p trying to remember) but maybe it is the weak signal/bandwidth issues? You know what? They both look good and are 1000 times better than any TV picture I grew up with, so who cares? |

On my 720p/1080i 32'' Panny LCD I use 720p mainly because I have an HD none DVR Digi Box and the box suck ass and always switches its self back to 720p & on my 720p/1080i 50'' Panny Plazzy I use 1080i & they both look beautiful set either way though

Yeh, this is a funny question. I too thought that 720p would be better over 1080i. So after looking at both and not seeing a huge difference I set it to 720p, since alot of people say its better. Some time later I switched over to 1080i, when I watched a movie that was sort of fuzzy, especially in Dark Scenes. The 1080i cleaned it all up. And now after watching dozen's of movies in 1080i I am sold that it is better in terms of detail and quality over 720p.

I have an Insignia 32 inch 1080i HDTV (yeah, I know cheap brand), it looks pretty good to me, though. I'm currently looking for a nice 1080p LCD HDTV to save up for. I don't want anything smaller than my current set, but my room is only so big. Is CNET good for their reviews?

I don't own a BR player (yet). How do I tell if my HDTV can do 720p or 1080p or whatever? (This is my TV).
Then I think I'd prefer 720p. Last edited by Cinemaddict; 01-17-2008 at 07:58 AM. |

It most likely will accept 1080i/720p and is then converted to 1366x768, which is slighty better than 720p. I also noted your TV has a built in tuner...if you dont already get HD channels, you might want some free OTA HD channels. |
