Default DS4 Controller Problems

Is anyone else having problems with their PS4 controller? I have had the R1 button get hung a few times while playing and now the □ button is also getting hung or not bouncing back.

I have read on other forums of people having this problem as well, but I have yet to run into it.

I had the same problem. It's somewhat common and easily fixable. You can just pop the R1 button out with a butterknife (trust me it pops out easily), then clean out the inside with canned air or heavy blowing and a q tip (I used a little rubbing alcohol). Mine hasn't stuck again since i did this a week or so ago.

I'm not having problems, but man, a brand new controller should not need to be cleaned out. My DS3's never needed to be cleaned inside. The rims around the sticks wore out before anything else happened to them.

Ok, so I took my controller apart and found a dog hair had some how gotten between the □ button and the plastic button pad behind it. My R1 button was also not completely in the groves but I am not sure if that is because of when I popped it apart or not.

Everything seems to be working fine now after putting it back together though. I will say that who ever designed these controllers must have had ease of access and ability to replace parts on their mind. This thing was a piece of cake to take apart and will be a breeze to replace anything that might end up getting broken or malfunction on the inside.

After taking the controller apart I also think we will be seeing a lot of websites where you will be able to by customizable parts. The top half of the controller in various colors will be an easy seller.

My analog sticks are already showing signs of wear and tear. Very cheaply made. The material is just coming off in chunks.

My R1 also sticks.

I noticed that the controller sometimes has a mind of its own. It will over-respond to my movements with the analog sticks. For example, if I move left, the controller will overcompensate and keep moving left after I let go of the stick. I have to shake the controller in order to get it to stop.

Yeah them analog sticks could have been made a tad better. Where the dead zone is, there should not be a rounded bubble like center where your thumb rests. o

Should be,

Mine were sticking on day three.

Fix:
Open controller, remove the trigger and clean off the rails that it slides on, then apply w-d40.

Should be fine after that.

I'm having a big problem with the right analog stick. Now it constantly points down when I'm trying to play. Before it was random, but now it's just unusable. Looks like I'll have to take it apart and see what I can do, or just buy a new one.

What games are you playing?

The dead zone is fit tighter on DS4 so there is more pull towards it when pressing the analog stick in full force in any direction.

I can see faulty units though as I've seen 3 times the number of controllers out in comparison to the actual system. I'd suggest slowly breaking them in.

The only problem I have with the controller is that I can't put it down!

but on a serious note the battery runs out quickly. That's my only gripe.

I've been switching between the DS4 stock & Evil Controller painted one. (Blue Skullz) The feel of the EC one is much different in your hands. The grip texture is mostly lost but the overall feel feels like its made of chrome if that makes any sense. my only problem or complaint is that after using the Xbox One's controller there isn't much breathing room or air circulation on DS4 by comparison when holding the controller for long periods of time. I hear people complain about DS4 weight but I find that its a perfect weight balance. My only concern other then the 2 already mentioned about the sticks & R1 buttons is the grip texture around the stick. It feels like over time & good use the edges will tear. I sure hope not.

I'm playing battlefield 4 right now. I'll look into adjusting dz settings. I hope that works.

Damn right! I've bought 2 and both are coming apart, chunks of rubber. Anyone have a suggestion? Surely thats covered by the warranty. However, for 65 dollars a piece, this should not be happening. I think the controller is well made other than that.

I had the sticky R1 button as well. Just search youtube for ps4 sticky r1 button. You can either take it apart completely of pop it out with a butter knife. I used the butter knife option and it's working fine since then.

Guess it's some problem with white powder or goo on the button posts.

My left analogue stick is showing signs of wear. I haven't got much hope, it'll last over two years.

So far so good with my controllers. However I have noticed the last day or so that my unit is having a hard time ejecting disks when using the eject button on the system. It's very hit and miss and most of the time I have to eject it from the controller.

Yeah, same here but I bought a standalone charger and always keep one charging while I'm using the other to kind of alleviate that issue.
