"Overall, I was very happy with this transfer. I saw 'Click' in the theater showing a standard film print -- if it was exhibited digitally anywhere, unfortunately I missed it -- and I remember it boasted quite vivid colors and a very bright, sharp and clean image. However, the film's overall visual aesthetic was also rather clinical and TV movie-esque, so it has a somewhat flat look at times. This 1.85:1, 1080p/MPEG-2 transfer delivers a similar presentation. As there is no "print" to speak of, the source master is predictably pristine. Blacks are absolutely rock solid, and contrast nice and smooth across the entire grayscale. Whites are not overpumped, and unlike some cheaper video formats (such as MiniDV and the like) the darker scenes generally don't lose detail in the shadows.

This Blu-ray release is also considerably superior to the standard DVD release. The image throughout is more detailed and sharp, sometimes noticeably so, and a bit brighter as well. Colors also get a big boost, especially during the second half of the film. The almost shocking hues of the futuristic sets, for example, are so vivid they seem impossibly real, and deliver the kind of color only high-definition is capable of. If nothing else, the next-gen formats prove that for material shot native in HD, standard-def video just does to do them justice."

So, like the end of the 1966 Batman movie, can we say "Success! Success!"?

If this is an indication of what the Blu-ray format can consistently and routinely deliver, the format war is just getting started.

I wish it meant it was actually ending so we could go to the business of watching movies

You gotta just wonder why this guy can't just come out and say wow what a great picture. The review was great but that word was missing, so if all the new bd 50 reviews are like this say good bye hd dvd.

I'm sure that some supporter from that 'other' format will find fault with at least two comments made in the review. You know they will have to do it!!

I was thinking that myself while reading his review.... like he was trying to find fault, but couldn't. It seemed like it was just killing him to recommend it!!! (I dont believe most reviewers care about one format or the other, like Peter, but still????????)

Excellent News! Sony definitely needed to knock this one out of the park and it looks like it did.

This is the only disc I've ever had stop working, won't play on any of 5 players. Weird. Hasn't played in years. No special treatment or odd exposure to liquid or heat, etc. Just one day never loaded.

Think I recall this being the first BD-50 release. Still haven't watched my copy after all these years and bought it way before I had an hdtv.

Blast for the past. Loved this movie. I believe it was the first Blu-ray I bought, other than the one that came with my PS3.
