OMG! I have got to have this Harryhausen spectacle! Although totally outdated by todays standards, the art of stop motion in his movies are undisputed (no computers!). It is great that the studios are releasing so many Harryhausen classics on blu-ray.

Amazon is NOT a reliable source for release dates. Unless there has been some kind of word from Sony, or news from insiders speculating about this title, then it's probably safe to assume this is bogus.

Actually Amazon is a reliable source for release dates. I've never seen them put up a preorder with a release date if it wasn't going to be announced shortly.

Same here. When they have the price and a release date, it's usually correct. Videoeta.com also shows July 6 and they have a UPC for the BD.

One of my favorite Harryhausen movies. Love that scene with them battling the skeletons.

Except that Sony has recently had a hi-def print already floating around Netflix Streaming, so it's safe to assume it exists at some point.
Amazon's dates are either early OR placeholder crocks, and it's usually either one or the other...The placeholders are a lot easier to spot, but the likely ones are often early notices.

Are the people that did this the same ones responsible for the Sinbad movie/s stuff with the stop motion? just curious, I grew up watching those old movies on Saturday's.

This is one of my favourite movies as I like stories related to Greek mythology. Highly anticipating this release but hoping the studio dedicates much effort in cleaning/restoring the film so that it looks elegant in blu-ray format.

Yes. Ray Harryhausen. Jason and the Argonauts is a fun movie. It is amazing the movies that Ray helped make with the technology that was available to him at the time. Simply Amazing! I will certainly add it to my blu ray collection.

once you ink a UPC#, it's pretty a lock for actual product. it's the titles that dont have UPC that goes crazy or stripped into OOP like Ran Criterion BD.

I wonder if this release will be the original 1:33:1 aspect ratio that Jason was actually shot? I have the Criterion laserdisc (which I consider to be THE premier issue of this film) and that's what it is. I do have the anamorphic 1:85 dvd I found for $5 bucks just to have but it would be nice if they would release it as it was originally shot or maybe include both aspect ratios.

That, and every other version was made for TV, and probably wouldn't show up on Blu-ray (thank goodness)...
Buy your Sony-released Harryhausen with confidence.

Went ahead and pre-ordered it. This is my solute favorite Harryhausen film. I too have the Crterion LD, which still looks great compared to the DVD.
