Mill Creek tends to be a little bit better in my book. Better licensing deals with major studios (Universal, Sony, Disney) while Echo Bridge is mostly just public domain and independent films (I don't see many EB releases anymore since they lost Miramax). Echo Bridge tends to treat Blu-ray as "more space for more movies" instead of maximizing quality per movie. Mill Creek will sometimes put out a decent release.
It's kind of funny how both of these studio's best releases are kaiju related. Echo Bridge went all out with their Godzilla vs Biollante release, including most of the extras from the Japanese release. It just suffered from some encoding issues and audio defect, as well as Toho's typical subpar transfer. Meanwhile Mill Creek gave us extensive (tho heavily flawed) releases for the Heisei Gamera films and Daimajin, a really nice less-flawed release of Mothra, and now they're giving us almost the entire Ultraman series. These really stand out from their typical barebones studio releases. |
