Default Green Room (2015) - Starring Imogen Poots, Anton Yelchin, and Patrick Stewart

Green Room

Quote:
Green Room

Official Description:

Broke, tired and at each other’s throats after a cancelled gig, a young punk rock band accepts a sketchy matinee show to get themselves home. When they stumble upon something they weren’t supposed to witness, the quartet is trapped in a terrifying siege. Directed by Jeremy Saulnier (of 2013 Cannes Film Festival FIPRESCI Prize winner Blue Ruin), the film stars Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, and Patrick Stewart. (Green Room is preceded by the previously announced short film The Chickening from directors Nick DenBoer and Davy Force).

Why It’s a Must-See: I heard nothing but good things about Jeremy Saulnier’s Blue Ruin from the time it premiere at Cannes in 2013 to when I eventually saw it at Sundance in 2014. I don’t intend to be behind the curve on his follow Green Room, which features Patrick Stewart playing a neo-Nazi. Saulnier has proven he knows how to deliver a potent mix of thrills, pathos, and dark comedy, and hopefully he’ll have another smash success on his hands with his new movie.

I was lucky enough to score a ticket for a screening earlier today at a film festival nearby.

I absolutely loved this film. Best film of the year so far, in my opinion. You can read my review here.

Not going to watch the trailer.

Already one of my most anticipated films of 2016. Blue Ruin was one of my favorite 2014 films. I love this director. I love Anton Yelchin. I love Imogen Poots. I grew up in the hardcore/punk DIY community. This movie was practically made for me.

That's a very good decision. I went in knowing nothing about it and my mind was blown. Such a great film.

That's basically my approach to everything nowadays. Only times I see trailers are when I'm in the theater.

I have a friend who's in a punk band and saw this movie at, I believe, SXSW. He said it his really close to home, particularly the whole concept of showing up to play a gig and it turns out to be something really bad. He said he's actually been in a situation where they showed up and it turned out to be a skinhead party, something that is surprisingly common in that world.

I've been involved in local DIY punk scenes for 12+ years now. I used to book bands, have tons of friends in bands, have friends that hosted shows in their houses, friends that supplied the PA system, and I was often the show "photographer". I'm not expecting this movie to be 100% accurate when it comes to the music scene and workings of such, but I do feel a stronger connection to this film already because of it.

Combine that with the fact it's by Jeremy Saulnier? I have a feeling I'm going to love this.

Same, I've been an avid goer of punk/hardcore shows all over the US for the past 10 years. Like said above, I have a biased interest to see these types of people/ethics/DIY attitudes in movies. Usually when punk comes up in film it's cringe-worthy though. haha

Well after reading that, I also think you're going to love it and if you don't mind a little bit of gore, that's also a plus.. I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I had to cover my eyes a few times, lol. But it is a really really entertaining film

April 15th release?! Why was I thinking this was coming out in March?

There's definitely a highly anticipated movie coming out in March, but I can't for the life of me think of what it is.
