Platoon (1986) (4K remaster) coming from Shout Factory - Blu-ray Forum

According to Amazon.ca, Shout will be releasing Platoon. Although, the date listed (Sep. 18) is almost certainly wrong, since Shout already announced their September lineup.

For realsies, how do we know Amazon haven't listed the incorrect distributor? That artwork posted above is identical to the UK Steelbook that came out in 2013. No Shout logo anywhere, and if they were releasing it, wouldn't they come up with some inferior newly commissioned artwork?

The UPC of 826663180534 corresponds to Shout! and not MGM.

Man, when Shout was recently teasing that they had all of these HUGE titles to announce, and that our 'jaws will drop' and our 'heads will explode' from all of the unbelievably cool, mind-blowing titles that they would announce this Fall, who knew that they just meant a TON of double-dip studio titles that are ALL already on perfectly great blu rays?

"Platoon" IS a major title, and a truly,truly great film, but it ALREADY has great representation on blu ray.

There are so many things that still need their blu debut...

There are zillions

Maybe I am just old and cynical, but I have been severely underwhelmed by most of Shout's announcements.

The world doesn't need yet more blu ray releases of movies that are already well represented on blu ray. Enough is enough.

Part of me hopes that all these MGM double dips are from a deal they signed a year or so ago, when they didn't have Warner and Sony deals, and that they're trying to clear their MGM backlog before moving on to better acquisitions. But since we got our first Scream Warner title in May, I'm really starting to wonder at this point...

Similar to "Fargo", there is an extra featurette which was dropped in the transition from DVD to Blu. I wouldn't upgrade just for that, but hopefully they do at least include it here.

Great film, but unless it's a spanking new 4K remaster, I can't see what Shout can add to justify a double dip.

On the surface: another pointless re-issue.

And fans are going to get fed up of it.

There’s nothing else besides a new 4K scan to justify me buying this yet again.

I’m sure they will sell plenty either way because of the steelbook.
