Default Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) (Collector's Edition)

Quote:
While Leslie Vernon’s return is up in the air, Glosserman did break the exciting news that a 10th anniversary home video release is planned for the original film.

This is the 10th anniversary. We’re gonna release a 10th anniversary edition of the movie. And put some new special features, more of which I’ll be announcing at [next month’s SXSW film festival]. I’m debating whether to put the [deleted] courtroom epiloque on. It would be a bonus feature on the DVD/Blu-ray. I never recorded a director’s commentary. At this point I think it’d be kinda nice to reflect on the film and go through it.

Excellent news. Hopefully they include the old DVD extras as well, there's some great deleted scenes on there. I take it this will be coming from Anchor Bay?

I assume so. But from what I heard from Michael Felscher on his livestream, Anchor Bay will be closing it's doors soon due to the Lionsgate merger and it's unknown whether the AB titles will carry the Lionsgate name or the still the Anchor Bay name (or both).

Either way, it will probably come from Anchor Bay/Lionsgate.

And kudos to AB on still stepping up their game and with a recent title.

I wonder if it'll go to the Vestron line.

I never upgraded my DVD because of the lack of bonus features. Hopefully now I'll be able to! This is a great horror comedy. Similar to Scream in that it is a parody of the genre that ended up becoming a pretty solid genre outing in and of itself.

They arent even closed to being the same. Thats like comparing friday the 13th to evil dead, sure they have woods and are horror movies but thats pretty much all they have in common.

Still works as a "critically acclaimed woods-themed horror movie is actually worse than a flew-under-the-radar woods-themed horror movie" comparison.

My comparison is based on they're both satires that dissect the rules and cliches of horror films. I always felt Behind the Mask did so far more successfully the Cabin in the Woods, yet never seems to get its due.

I was watching the HATCHET films over the weekend and there's a little nod to Leslie Vernon in one of them!

Great! The current Blu-ray has lossy sound, no extras and I think a VC1 encode.

Both are a blast. I never bothered to get the current BD since I had the dvd and the BD had none of the extras and didn't look to be much of an upgrade. I'm all in for a special anniversary edition though! Same thing happened with The Alphabet Killer (didn't upgrade cuz of missing features and no huge benefit), Anchor Bay was just putting out horrible BD's for a bit there.

I've heard good things about this from a friend I trust - I might have to blind buy this.

I absolutely love this movie! I remember getting it when it first came out on dvd (as a blind buy). Every person I showed it to went out and bought it right away. Then of course I got it on blu. Will definitely support this edition when it comes out.

If you ask me, both Behind the Mask and Cabin in the Woods did meta horror better than any of the Scream movies (though I really like the fourth and final installment) and New Nightmare.

Scream > New Nightmare > Behind the Mask > Scream 2&3 > Cabin in the Woods > Scream 4

I sat through a panel with the director of this movie back in 2012, he was planning a sequel on Kickstarter or something.
