Default Question re Panny dmp-bd10a

I guess this really belongs to the Audio discussion forum but being a newb I can't post there. I do apologize if this was covered before but I can't seem to find a thread regarding this issue.

I have the bd10a and I know that it does not DECODE dts hd ma signal. With that said, is it capable of passing the said signal to a receiver that's capable of decoding it? I know that I'll also need a hdmi v1.3 cable for this to work and the guy at the store sold me a cable that he claims to be 1.3 compliant (though that wasn't indicated on the packaging).

With that in mind, I know that the player supports/decodes Dolby TrueHD. I'm having issues sending that bitstream to my receiver. I've noticed that some owners of the new BD30 are having issues getting their players to send dolby truehd to their receivers as well and I've already tried some of the work-around methods but to no avail.

Can the experts out there shed some light on this or point me to a thread that does? I'd really appreciate it

No, the actual HDMI interface needs to be HDMI 1.3 in the player. The BD10A is 1.2 I believe, either way it's not 1.3

You can't bitstreadm THD or HDMA without 1.3

You must set them all to PCM

Thanks for the quick response.

So basically, I'm pretty much screwed on the Dolby THD and DTS HD MA part right? For some reason, I was under the impression that I'll only need a 1.3 compliant receiver to enjoy those 2 HD tracks. Arghh... I guess the receiver will be going back to the store then heheh...

Also, PCM mode for the BD10A is 2 channels only right?

On a different note, is the PS3 on the same boat as the BD10A with regards to HD audio tracks?

Over HDMI you'll get the full spread up to 7.1

Yes, PS3 same boat. You need a BD-30 to stream

I'd keep the reciever and then upgrade the player later

They are nice, but I dumped my 8 month old Denon to get an Onkyo 805 just because I wanted to decode TrueHD and DTS-HD MASTER. Circuit City seems to have it on sale a few times a month lately for $699 from it's original $1200.
