Apparently this one got released by Universal the same time The Smokey and the bandit 2 and 3, and Housesitter were released! Awesome I liked this one! Looking forward to adding it to my collection!

Hey they finally put this on blu!!!! I so happy as this is one of my favourite movies. I watch it at least once a year. It just has a fun feel good feel about it. There are so many scenes that are so visually beautiful. I sure hope is a good transfer.

I didn't realize this got a release on Blu-Ray! It's been years since I've seen it last, but it's one of my favorite comedy films of all time.
I wonder if this is the international version of the film (identical in content to the US release, but all the non-English dialogue is subtitled, which I almost feel takes away from the slapstick, fish-out-of-water scenario). |

I distinctly remember being surprised by the subtitles during that scene when I watched it on Netflix once, but maybe I'm not remembering correctly. |

Can anyone confirm if the US Blu-ray is the international version or the US version? (US version incl. laptop scene reinstated into the film rather than listed under deleted scenes)

I have the 2019 US Blu edition. I just checked the Blu and I can confirm the US edition does have the coffee/laptop scene in it. Also the US edition also has forced language subs. Interesting to note that it has no menu...only a pop up menu. That is the only way to get to the bonus features. That's a first for me. So do the International edition have forced subs for the other languages (French, Russian, ect). I would love to watch the movie without the subs I think it really would make you feel more lost. bean 1.jpg bean 2.jpg bean 3.jpg |

I own the UK Blu, and I can confirm that the subtitles for the spoken French and Russian aren't hardcoded. You can't seem to turn them off from the disc's set-up menu, but if your player can manually change subtitles during the film then you're able to switch them off.

Wikipedia states that there is a deleted scene from the episode "Tee off Mr. Bean" on this release as a special feature. Could anyone please confirm/deny? I own the UK Blu-ray already, but a deleted scene from the TV series would justify buying this one.

I just did a quick review of the deleted scenes...there was nothing from the TV show it was all from the movie. Also I didn't see anything golf tee or tea related in the scenes. They play as one long 23 minute scene and they are not broken up. I don't remember seeing all of these before on the DVD but I could be wrong.

So apparently, Bean was released in the US in 2018 and Mr Bean's Holiday in 2019. The main difference between the first two movies seems to be, first, that they're encoded in AVC instead of the old VC-1. I dunno if the different is noticeable since the master is the exact same. Also Bean is another cut which has a different scene apparently.

I own the UK and US Blu-ray releases of both films, so perhaps I can clear everything up.
The UK discs are both BD-25 with the old VC-1 codec, whereas the US discs are BD-50 with the AVC codec. I didn't personally notice any difference in A/V quality, though I hardly feel qualified to speak on the subject with any certainty. Both Bean (1997) and Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007) were released in two main versions (not counting television edits, cuts in countries with stricter censorship, etc.), an international version and a US version. The US and international versions of Bean '97 differ in only one aspect, with both containing different versions of the turkey scene. The two versions of Holiday differ in a few more ways. The US version includes an extra scene on the train at the beginning of the film, cuts out a few small scenes that are present in the international version, and changes a few music cues (e.g. a sequence playing an intramental piece in the international version is replaced with Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf in the US version). The UK disc for Bean '97 features the international version. The bonus features include a The UK disc for Holiday contains the international version, three behind the scenes featurettes, and a selection of deleted scenes. The US disc includes the US version, the same three featurettes, and a selection of deleted scenes. The deleted scenes on the two discs do differ to reflect the scenes cut in the different versions (e.g. the US disc's deleted scenes features scenes from the international version that were cut from the US version and vice versa), but most of the deleted scenes are the same on both discs. Also worth noting that the subtitles on the US Holiday disc are hardcoded, whereas the subtitles on the UK disc aren't. Last edited by Double - U; 03-09-2020 at 04:38 PM. |

For US buyers: The US discs are missing the various deleted scenes included in the bonus features of Bean '97 in the UK, which includes the US version of the turkey scene. The international turkey scene is also not present on any US release. As for Holiday, the film itself has several changes including scenes cut, however as far as I can tell these have all been included under the deleted scenes on the US disc. In short... If you own the UK releases: Not really missing anything. If you own the US releases: Missing out on the deleted scenes from Bean (1997), but not much else unless you're an absolute fanatic. |
