Default Info on voice communication

Just wondering how or if you can communicate with your friends while playing PS3 on-line. I guess some games have it and some don't.
Can you talk to one friend only from a team of 6, or can everyone hear?
I got the PS3 to recognize my Motorola ear piece, but when I tried to connect to a friend of mine (chat room), he could hear me over his ear piece and speakers, but I could not hear him.

Looking for info from the experts here. Last night was the first time I ever tried to play on-line. Thanks.

it's hit or miss. i've had the same problems. and no the whole team can hear you there is no private chat which sucks when you and a buddy want to check out spawn points and stuff like rainbow six vegas you know what i mean? they say it's coming but no date is set.

If he could hear you but you could not hear him, I would check your audio settings on the PS3 (under the main user settings AND the settings in the chat room menus). Make sure the PS3 knows to use either your headset as the speaker and mic or your speakers for output. Also make sure the mute is not on.

That is for your chat room issues.

Thanks people for the responses. So far, it seems the easiest way for us to communicate has been using our bluetooth headsets and cell phones. Thank god for unlimited minutes!

One more question. To get weapon upgrades, do you have to get a number of wins/kills on-line to earn these like the 360, or some other way? Thanks. Scott

That would depend entirely on the game. Some games like Resistance, for example, all the weapons are typically available to all players regardless of level/rank/kills/wins/etc. depending on the map, or game type. Basically all the players on that server/in that game have access to the same weapons. The only things that get unlocked in Resistance, over time, are clothing accessories/skins/etc. Stuff that really doesn't matter much in the grand scheme.

Other games like Call of Duty 4, you unlock new weapons/accessories the more you play online. You gain access to new weapons/ablities/scopes/etc. by gaining experience points, which accumulate faster with more kills/wins/etc.

Yet other games like SOCOM, new weapons and accessories can only be unlocked by playing the single player mode and meeting certain objectives. The unlocked weapons/accessories are tied to your online account through the single player save game.

So, long story short, there is no real hard and fast rule as to how you obtain weapon upgrades for the online/multiplayer modes. It really depends on the developer.

Thanks Borrowed, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I have been trying to get the weapon upgrades for the game Solider of Fortune payback, but have only been playing on-line a few days. Going to start COD4 tonight. Thanks again.
