United Kingdom Every UK BBC/2Entertain BD release... ever

This is a little project I've been working on, and now that it's complete, I thought I would share it with the community. I've been making a database to list every BBC/2Entertain BD release in the UK - more specifically, their catalogue numbers.

I'd started getting curious about the catalogue codes when I looked at my Doctor Who collection, and saw how wildly some of the numbers differed despite similar release dates. As it turns out, while the codes have a chronology of sorts, it is not one based strictly on release order (or even intended release order).

It's interesting to note the gaps, and what could have been there. So many releases that made it as far as the internal catalogue, but never saw the light of day.

I'm sure very few people care for this sort of thing, but thought I'd share it in case it is useful to anyone in the future:

Code:

Interesting anomalies:
  • During the format wars, BD and HD-DVD were part of the same catalogue system.
  • The Amaray re-release of Torchwood: Series 2 has a typo in the code that made it all the way to print.
  • Red Dwarf was originally planned to have standalone series releases, and this got so far that each series has it's own catalogue number embedded on the disc data.
  • On another Red Dwarf note... while the BBC-made series have BBC codes, subsequent series and specials made for Dave are under the 2Entertain banner.
  • For Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, they deliberately broke convention and chose available catalogue numbers containing '42' (0042 and 0542).
