Fall of 2016. I was getting jealous of all the 4K talk here so I went out and bought a 55" LG OLED and X Box One S along with Labyrinth and Sicario.
The X Box One S had frustrating handshake issues with my TV so I sold it and got the LG player. Unfortunately that was a nightmare of whirring noise and terrible video quality. Finally got the Sony X800 and have been satisfied overall ever since, despite it not having Dolby Vision. |

I had the severely clearanced Walmart LG 4K player in April of 2018, but October 2018 is when I got an amazing deal on a 4K TV when I opened a Best Buy credit card.

July 2017...my Panasonic VT30 plasma all of a sudden would no longer power on (blinking power light)...so I did some research and bought the LG C7 OLED a week later...I'm really happy with the purchase as 4K/Dolby Vision looks amazing and the TV still holds up today as an excellent/reference display

February of 2016 is when I found a killer deal on a 4K TV. 55 inch open box at Target for like 180 bucks. Then grabbed the Samsung launch player a couple of weeks before it's actual release because HH Gregg had them on shelf early.

I went 4K a month ago with a cheap sony UHD player and an even cheaper Vizio UHD TV. The TV was so bad that I sent it back so now I am watching the small amount of UHDs I have on a 1080 set. I am saving up for a better player and TV as I don't want to get into debt. I just crawled out of that hole recently.

Even though I'm still rockin' an SDR 1080p projector from 2010 (the Panasonic PT-AE4000... on its third bulb!), I bought the Oppo 203 last year when Oppo announced they were going away, just to be "future ready". Then, I finally caved to 4K media earlier this year, when a high enough percentage of my all-time favorite movies had come out with new transfers that were only available on UHD. I think if I were to put a fine point on it, it would be the release of ALIEN that really did the trick. That opened a Pandora's box that made me buy BLADE RUNNER, PREDATOR, DIE HARD, HALLOWEEN '78, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, SCHINDLER'S LIST, JURASSIC PARK, and E.T. Bought most of those in a single weekend.
But I'm still only buying my absolute faves on UHD, and only if there's a significantly upgraded new transfer. |

Fall 2017. I decided to start purchasing 4K Blu-Rays even though I didn’t have a player or a TV capable of showing them. Those came quickly on Black Friday that year. And now I can’t stop, lol.

Unfortunately, living in Portugal makes it impossible to go 4K UHD when Disney itself stopped releasing Blurays with our subtitles because they want to push the digital versions of the movies and soon their streaming service.

Hard to answer.
For instance I had 4k tech in 2016, but watched a few UHDs then returned the tv and player since it was very meh. Then again had tech in 2017 with the next tv and streamed a few titles, once again not impressed much, but didn't bother with actual UHDs again until late 2017 and have not truly adopted really, but cherry pick the few titles that are worth it to me and built a little backlog of titles to investigate further. Lot of untapped potential still in the format. |

Got a 55 inch sharp in fall of 2017, it barely had any hdr capabilities though so it made uhd somewhat useless and I think anything under a 65 is probably too small for a 4k tv for me.
I bought a 65 sony x900f in March and its been the leap I was looking for. Watched an hour of Jackson's king kong the other day and I am still being stunned by uhd content all the time. |

Three answers for me technically.
Started buying 4K releases in September 2017, when the Peanuts 4K releases started and had an extra special for each release, come to find out the BD version only had 2, so that sucked lol I didn't get a 4K player until May 25th 2019... still don't have a 4K TV though lol I typically don't buy a TV unless the one I have just completely dies and I have no choice. |
