Virtually no chance at all

The show is SD, the "movie" was an upconvert of direct to video specials, and the show has been totally dead in Japan for years, and virtually dead in the US for several more

There's no point in putting it on Blu

well its not that they wont put it on blu-ray its more like its at the very bottom of what Funimation and 4Kids want to put out for blu-ray. if they released them uncut like they did for the 1st 3 volumes then maybe a possibility. but they never did really put like really any dvds for Shaman King except for the 1st 2 volumes uncut but just stopped so i could see Shaman King on Blu-Ray more so then Yu-Gi-Oh. as for the old, old tmnt cartoons there is like a tiny hope for it but the odds are kind of against it even though it would be nice to own but probably wont hear anything about that one till like at least 2012

They stopped releasing the uncut volumes because despite the loud outcry for them, virtually no one actually bought them

YGO does not exist in actual HD masters, they would have to go back to the film on it, which no one would actually be willing to finance that because there's simply no return in Japan or here

The original Ninja turtles, the film for that is long gone, like most 80s cartoons. And while it sells well as a nostalgia piece, again there's nowhere close to the money in it to make it remotely feasilbe to retransfer it.

Personally, I can see why. When I bought my copies, the dialogue pretty repeated the whole first episodes of the cut series, and to make matters worse, the subtitles repeated the words of the english dub, which pretty much made the Japanese translations "inaccurate." I was severely disappointed over this.

Either the adaptation writers think they have a conscious and want to keep the little chilluns safe from harm, or they just consider their lesser adaptation of a perfectly good story a "work of art," either way... it screwed the whole thing over.

they could always do what they did for One Piece make the subtitles accurate, keep all uncut footage, better voice actors, etc. and i know what you are going to say one piece is more popular but the main problem would be since shows like Shaman King, One Piece, and Yugioh are so long that they make DBZ look short but just all of the voice acting these actors would have to do to redo the mess up job 4Kids made just so that 4 year olds could watch it. then the problem with shaman king is that only 2 dvds ever came available to america which were uncut no edited ones at all except for what you would see on fox kids so for collector's of shaman king are basically screwed

Now that the new movie is coming out on blu-ray, there might still be a chance that Pyramid of Light gets a blu-ray release. After all, the Pokemon movies miraculously got a blu-ray after over a decade.

Pokemon had HD remasters available in Japan (made it easy to bring the dubbed version to Blu over here). Not sure that there's an HD master lying around in Japan for Pyramid of Light. 4Kids co-funded/co-produced it, though, so it's possible that an HD master exists from circa 2004.

Then there's the matter of distribution rights. Does WB still have the rights, or did those expire like the Pokemon rights? Pyramid of Light is out of print, so my guess is that WB does NOT hold the rights anymore. Cinedigm has done the Yu-Gi-Oh releases, with the exception of Lionsgate releasing this new film.

If the new movie's Blu-ray sells well then I imagine it's a possibility. The Pokemon trilogy sold well enough to warrant a Diamond & Pearl boxset.

From what I can tell, there definitely is an HD master for Pyramid of Light that's kicking around. It's aired on ITV HD over here in the UK a couple of times.

Here are a couple of screenshots:

Really shows off how cheap the animation is

Eh, no biggie. The blu-ray for The Wizard of Oz shows off how fake the sets and props really are but I still think it's adds to the charm. And cheap and lazy animation is kind of a thing for anime anyway.

You think it is possible that we could ever get another Yu-gi-oh! film after this one? With or without the original cast?

They're releasing the current incarnation to Blu-ray, and I could see Pyramid of Light coming out (though I thought that film was godawful, the worst I've ever seen in theaters), the original series will probably never see Blu because it was animated digitally in SD. Playing the DVDs in a BD player might actually look better than an upscale job.

Is that why we haven't seen a blu-ray yet for the pokemon animated series? And what label would release Pyramid of Light since Warner Bros. lost the rights to the film?

Doesn't this belong in the anime section?

Anyway, I wish they would give us the remastered HD versions that aired in Japan a few years ago. This would be the best time to finally give us the show in Japanese.

Geoff, did you watch the movie in English or Japanese? It's so much better in Japanese and holds more meaning.

^ Well I'm not a big fan of the anime TV series either, but I can at least appreciate that for its camp value (especially the 4Kids version), and bits of nostalgia. I only saw the dub for the movie, in theaters. I was 10 at the time, but even then, I thought it was really, really boring.

I like the first 7 vols. of the manga though. Very dark and suspenseful, and with an interesting concept. I just could never get into the card game at all.

Not really. The original episodes were cel-animated, and the film could be re-scanned if they can afford to do that. The 2002-2009ish era of the show would have the same problem as YGO though.

No idea about Pyramid of Light. Maybe 4K Media has it, and could reissue it with Lionsgate or Cinedigm, but I don't really know.

Did you read the full manga or did you just stop after that?

I ask because despite the cards having two big arcs, they're still not the focus of the manga. The focus is still on the Millennium Items and who the nameless Pharoah really is. The suspense and dark moments are still throughout the entire thing. The anime dumbed it down A LOT and they threw in the card game even when there was none (like turning Dungeon Dice Monsters into pretty much Duel Monsters with cards, having Bandit Keith return to duel Yugi until Malik's control instead of a scene from that bit being Ryuji's father and Keith was dead).

I've seen some of the remastered HD episodes from Japan and they leave a lot to be desired. As others have mentioned it was SD cell animation so the lines are quite blurry on the DVD's and the remastered HD's and there might not be a lot they can do about that.

Also the show was made and aired in 4:3 but for HD they decided to chop off the top and bottom of the picture to make it 16:9 and that is not cool.

If a new scan could be done with significant and noticeable improvements and in its original format for blu ray that would be great but until then I'm happy with my Japanese DVD's of DM.

Anyone here that still owns their trading cards from the franchise? I still collect them and play with my friends.
