Default Fox Is Making A 'Doctor Doom' Film

http://deadline.com/2017/07/comic-co...on-1202132719/

Quote:
At the very end of the Legion panel at Comic-Con, showrunner Noah Hawley broke the news that he is developing a Doctor Doom film at Fox. This expands Hawley’s involvement in the comic book universe as he takes on a movie about of the biggest villain in the Marvel universe.

Not much information was given about the movie considering Hawley said it at the very tail-end of the panel, but the character of Doctor Doom (a.k.a. Victor Von Doom) might be best remember in the 2005 adaptation of Fantastic Four where he was played by Julian McMahon. The Fox superhero movie also starred Ioan Gruffudd, Reed Richards, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis as Marvel’s first family.

Doctor Doom is the arch nemesis of the Fantastic Four and is a scientific genius. Known for his signature look of an iron mask and a green cloak, he has a multitude of powers including sorcery, mind transferal, superhuman strength near-indestructibility as well as energy projection and absorption.

This may be the start of a new Fantastic Four franchise, but approached via a supervillain. Fox rebooted the Fantastic Four franchise in 2015 with Josh Trank directing and Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell starring as the titular heroes with Toby Kebbell as another iteration of Doctor Doom.
*Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong sigh*

Fox is literally trying to induce Marvel fans in to storming their studio ALA Frankenstein.

I wanted nothing more than Doctor Doom to be in the MCU in his rightful place as Marvel's greatest villain, but if that isn't happening, then Fox needs to do right by Doom by establishing him separately from the FF. I've said many times before that the best way to develop Doom is by starting off with a solo movie for the character. Do that successfully, then maybe Fox will gain enough trust with the fans for another reboot of the FF later. But Doom needs to be done first and well enough on his own for anyone to care.

The guy who did Fargo and Legion? This'll be interesting. I hope he injects some of his avant garde, weird sensibilities into it.

That does make this idea all the more sweeter. I love Legion!

Doctor Doom = science and sorcery. It could be great!

If they take this seriously and make it dark, this may even make up for my disappointment in Doctor Strange.

Making a Dr. Doom movie will not fulfill their obligation to make a FF movie by 2021(?)
If they make it -- good for them, but they will still have to make an FF movie to keep the IP.

And the FF playing a minor role DOES NOT COUNT. They are obliged to make a proper FF movie by a certain date.

As long as they make Doctor Doom into a sorcerer and not some guy with electrical powers like in the previous films, then I'm okay with this.

What if they call the film 'The Fantastic Four Proudly Present: DOCTOR DOOM'?

No!

Not acceptable. LOL

And Darkstream has gone over to the "dark" side. He may have more trouble looking in the mirror than Doom himself.

Well, if that's the case, expect a Fantastic Four reboot sooner. I hope the rumor isn't true that they are going for a kids movie with the property. But maybe they can start with another villain in the first FF film, then bring both Doom and the FF together in a later third film.

For instance:

- Doctor Doom

- The Fantastic Four vs. Annihilus

- The Fantastic Four vs. Doctor Doom

At first I thought well Fox will do anything to keep the Fantastic Four license from reverting back to Marvel, except for, you know, producing a F4 movie that's not too light (F4 and Silver Surfer) or too terrible ("Fant4stic")... but since that's not the case, I'm sure they'll reboot F4 a third time soon.

Or it could be Fox's way to c-block Marvel... The rights could revert, but if they do, how are you going to do any F4 movie(s) without Doom at some point? So even if Marvel got them back, they would be kind of stuck in limbo for a while.

I refuse to be excited about anything Fantastic Four related from Fox until I actually see it with my own eyes at this point. If it is good, awesome! If it is not, no surprise.

I've been hoping for years that the rights would go back to Marvel/Disney, not because I have any interest in a FF movie anytime soon after Fox's blunders, but because I REALLY want to see Doom, Surfer and Galactus in that world.

Glad to see some people haven't given up being optimistic about certain properties at certain studios.

I love what Marvel Studios does, but I have a stronger affections for many characters they don't have control of, so I have no choice but to follow my heart and keep giving these films a chance, hoping they finally get it right.
