National Lampoon Blu-Ray & 4K Releases

Considering only a small handful of films are well known with the National Lampoon name attached, I figured I'd drop this thread to cover the various Blu-ray and 4K-UHD releases that are available. I'll try my best to keep it up to date. This will not include packs that have non-Lampoon films. Even though it doesn't have the name on it, Vegas Vacation is still a National Lampoon film, so it will be included here.

If I missed any, please let me know. I'm aware there are other multi-packs that include National Lampoon films as well as some other non-US releases, but this thread is reserved only for exclusively National Lampoon films primarily in the US market.

A special mention goes out to Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead: The Story of the National Lampoon - while it's not by National Lampoon, it is all about the magazine when it first started. Big thank you to Nitroes who brought this up in the comments.

Yeah I was kinda surprised to not see that. It's not as popular as Animal House or Vacation but it's still worthy of a release for sure.

Also kinda bummed there's still no 4K European Vacation or Vegas Vacation release. Vegas was absolutely the weakest one but I find it strange they would do the first and third films on 4K but then leave behind the second and fourth.

I did see that one (as well as a few others), but didn't include it because it's a non-US release. For whatever reason Germany got a few National Lampoon movies on Blu-ray that didn't get American releases.

Loaded Weapon 1 on uhd would be so awesome. I remember first seeing it as an edited version that aired on a flight when I was a little kid. I probably woke up multiple people from laughing so much. One of the best comedies ever, imo.

4K would be awesome, but I'd even be happy with a solid Blu-ray release - at least SOMETHING. I wonder if any of the boutique distributors like Shout Factory have ever shown interest in it.

I would grab Loaded Weapon I in about 2 seconds. That movie is great!

Also, put me down for enjoying Vegas Vacation even without the National Lampoon branding.

Screenwriter John Hughes used to write for National Lampoon magazine and penned Vacation, European Vacation, and Christmas Vacation, while working there. Thus, they have the "National Lampoon" moniker. The screenplay for Vegas Vacation wasn't written by Hughes (it was written by Elisa Bell), so the "National Lampoon" headline was dropped. So, in other words: while the "Vegas Vacation" may be the Griswold family's, it is not National Lampoon's.

I'm finding mixed results in terms of whether or not it's National Lampoon. It was made after the company was bought by a third party and it was made in collaboration with that studio, it just dropped the moniker because Hughes wasn't there. By technicality, it was a Lampoon film, just a much, much lesser version of one.

Agree. From what I recall, there were multiple added scenes in the edited version I saw on a flight; not sure if it was also a version used for tv as well. But something like that could be fun to include. Used to hate having to 'settle' for those, but now they can be fun alternate viewing experiences. I actually saw the tv edits for a lot of films growing up and those versions faded into obscurity. Probably more interested in ones with actual added material, though, and not just lazy removal of profanity, etc. It's weird to see cable stations like TBS now allow so much when growing up even the most mild curse words were edited from movies like Bloodsport.

Back in the days when we'd see words like "ass" swapped out for words like "sandwich", leaving the viewers confused.

It's about the very beginnings of NL magazine, the great times and the final part of the brand. Very detailed including the movies. Mentions Caddyshack too.
