I guess technically my parents were, but I benefited from their choice.

I think the first player was in 78-79? It was one of those monster top-loaders.

VHS, I think it may have been later in the war, but it was still undecided at that point.

heh i still remember going to the video store and seeing the smaller tape next to the bigger tape. The VHS copy would always be sold out, and the Beta would be in stock, that helped us for a while until some movies stopped showing up in beta

Well anyone under the age of 41 was not really in this fight. And that is assuming someone bought their first player at 16. Since this fight was over buy 1983. The sales side was over in 1981 when VHS just crushed the sales of Beta. But I will give it those 2 years on the end. So the real question is how many were here or as it has been said it was the parents that were in the war not us.
I know that is the case with me my partents were in the war. My first real video war was VHS vs LD. And then latter with DVD vs LD. Which LD lost both of those fights. I think just due to the size not the price.

I guess beta didn't really lose. You still see live news broadcast and guess what kind of camera it is? Beta.

Now i am sure they will all start to turn HD. Interesting that it seems VCR will totally die before beta.

I had VHS in my room, my roommate had his Betamax out in the living room.

He's now in jail and I am not.

Coincidence?

I think not.

I was just a kid, but my friend had beta (and lots of movies to loan me ), so I remember being so disappointed when my dad came home with a VHS (along with a new giant 20" tv!)

That player lasted him over 20 years too! (tv almost as long)
