Default Updating firmware.

I have a dell xps m1710 with a blu ray drive. but lately it hasn't been wanting to play blu ray disks properly. when i try to play one of my blu ray movies with powerdvd dx it usually tells me i need to download periodic critical update, but when i try to download the update it either doesn't fix anything or it tells me there are no updates available. other times it won't load the disk at all, or it loads but just to a black screen on powerdvd, and once it said it wasn't recognizing the disk because a) something needs to be updated b) the disk is corrupted or c) the drive doesn't recognize the type of disk. i've contacted dell a few times and they couldn't help me except to tell me i needed to contact the publisher of the software. i tried that and the only number i could find i called and they gave me some bogus e mail address that i haven't gotten an answer from. so i was just wondering if any of you all could help me out. do i just need to update my firmware? if so how do i go about doing that? or is there another software other then powerdvd someone could recommend that might work better? any ideas at all would be appreciated.

thanks

sam

You should try to download WinDVD 8 it supposedily can play back Blu-Ray movies from a PC drive. You should also check the manufacturer of your BD drive & update the firmware. Good luck Sam.

Default thanks

great thanks for the help. i'm downloading the trial version of windvd 8 so if that works i'll look into buying. and i will try contacting the manufacturer of my drive and see if they can help me out. i also found another way to contact cyberlink (the creator of powerdvd) so maybe they'll get back to me and help me out.

thanks again

sam
