Default Ever attempted to watch every film from same actor in release order?

Sourcing the last two films of Stallone then I’m going to start watching every film he was in by release order. So Rebel first then Lords of Flatbush and so on.

Skipping his first “major role”, ha, in that Stud film and skipping uncredited cameos.

Anyone else done this with an actor?

Love Stallone so looking forward to it.

Every couple of years, I marathon John Wayne movies this way. Currently I'm working through Dolph Lundgren. I alternate the movies with some random titles to keep it fresh.

Tried it with Jean-Claude Van Damme a few years ago (starting with Bloodsport), got to the first DTV flick in the late 90s and had to hop off lmao. Love the man but he’s got some wild trash in his back catalogue. Did the same with Bob Hope, made it through the 30s and 40s but had to quit after the man visibly stopped trying to be funny on film, I couldn’t take it.

I still intend to try it with Bogart and Jackie Chan someday but the catalogues are pretty damn deep, so who knows if I’ll ever make it through.

We actually had a VHS copy of The Party at Kitty and Stud's, back when I worked at a video rental store. It seemed quite rare, even back then. I imagine it would have been worth something these days. I never did see it back then.

I've done Van Damme as well, but I have a higher tolerance for trash

I've done a number of directors that way.

Not necessarily in release order, but there are several actors with large filmographies that I have tried to see everything they've ever done.

I started on Harvey Keitel back in the 90s. I had already seen a number of his films up to that point, and then have been trying to keep up since. Some of his titles took years to find. He has literally worked all over the globe in films of every genre and scale. I've seen very, very nearly every single thing he's ever been in (well over 200 titles). But not in order.

Yeah, Steve Martin. You start out with the films he made when he had white hair. Then you get to the ones where he had really white hair.

Never one actor, but I’ve just watched all four films Bogart and Bacall made together in release order. Loved all of them.

No. I care for directors, not actors, but even so I've never done it.

I did this once with horror film stars Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi. Also with Hammer films but
not because of who's in them so much as their being Hammer films. Also Buster Keaton and
Chaplin; the box sets collecting their comedy shorts on blu-ray makes it easy to watch them in
chronological order.

I study director's work in chronological order. Sometimes I turn the sound off so that I can study
them technically. Camera set-ups, blocking, pacing, timing. I only do this with old films. Newer
films are a mess. If you want to see a maestro, watch Roman Polanski's film in order.

I haven't... but this is a great idea.

If I do, the two actors will be John Wayne (but only starting with Stagecoach from '39 and going up from there) and Vincent Price.

Alfred Hitchcock is by far my favorite film maker, so I really should try this with his films, too. I think this would be a great idea for directors, especially, and see how their craft changes as time goes on.

It'd sure be funny trying to do this in chronological order for an actor.

That sounds like something I've done a few times but the only one I remember was when Daniel Day Lewis announced his retirement, I watched all of his movies in order finishing with a first time viewing of Phantom Thread.

Not exactly, I did watch all of Clint Eastwood's westerns in chronological order though. And I occasionally binge watch my favorite Directors films in chronological order but only the ones I have

I do this every year with Jet Li's filmography; starting on his birthday, I watch one film a week in chronological order.
Also have the same meal with each film. It's a weekly tradition for me and has been for the last few years.

Only one not on DVD/Blu-ray is Gong Shou Dao, which really annoys me.

But I've got it perfectly timed for 53 weeks of viewing (it's a double when you end and start again the next day. i.e. this year it ended on the Thursday and then started again on the Friday). I even include his PS2 game - I spend the afternoon trying to get through as much of it as possible.

I haven't done a full run through for any actors yet, but recently I've started going through filmographies for actors (and directors) I like and filling in the gaps. Jimmy Stewart, Nicole Kidman, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Chan, Linda Fiorentino, Nancy Allen, Reese Witherspoon, and Elsa Lanchester are some of the actors. I've tended to seek out films by director in the past, so by performer has been a good way to finally get to some of the "I can't believe you've never seen that!" movies.

Not with actors but I've done full watch-throughs for Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson's filmography.
