Not this again. I really enjoyed Barry season 1 and found out that it might be DVD only?
It's up on Amazon as DVD only at this time. https://www.amazon.com/Barry-S1-Vari...SIN=B07FDKXCZR Anyone know if this is getting a blu-ray? First Vice Principals and now this? I really hope not. Last edited by neoz; 02-05-2019 at 08:47 PM. |

I wonder if HBO wants to stop releasing comedies on Blu-ray. They never released any HD seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm as recetnly as last year, and they neglected to release the conclusion of Vice Principals, as well.
I hope Barry gets a release, as I had wanted to watch it. I think I have it on my TiVo, but HBO's Blu-rays are vastly superior to their 1080i broadcasts, so I would only watch it if it was released on Blu-ray. |

DVD only for their comedies is a bullshit trend that HBO has gone with, and Barry is a casualty. It sucks harder with other HBO comedies that started out with BD’s (Vice Prinicpals, Silicon Valley), and then they go to the archaic technology that is DVD.
At least with Silicon Valley having 4 seasons on Blu-Ray, they really should have continued to do BD’s with Silicon Valley until the end of it’s run. I will now stop buying the series at S4 due to HBO’s cheap prick choice for a DVD only run. ![]() As a Blu-Ray on TV collector there is nothing more annoying than a series starting with Blu-Ray and then going DVD only. Hopefully Veep’s last season will still get a Blu-Ray release. To have six seasons on Blu-Ray and then the Seventh and Final season going DVD only will be a huge “F*ck You” to the Hi-def physical media buying public. |

Yeah, really annoying. I haven't bought a single show that has gone DVD only yet. What really bugged me was the Strain and Fargo. Sucks for Homeland as well as it has gone 6 seasons on Blu-ray and the 7th season is DVD only. Plus, the show is going to end with the 8th season. Pretty stupid.

Ugh, Vice Principals being half neglected on blu-ray is never going to stop chafing. Plus -- only one DVD for nine episodes! And you had to repurchase the first season along with it!
That show deserved better. So does Barry, for that matter. |

Vice Principals treatment was bullshit. Especially since I imported S1 and while I can buy S2 on DVD here in Australia, it will be a PAL transfer. F*ck that!
Quote:
Like the US, Homeland S7 went DVD only in Australia, but the UK released a S7 Blu-Ray (that I imported). Region Free too. Really hope that the UK does a S8 Blu-Ray, considering, as you said, it’s the last season. Would be a travesty not to do one more... But I guess that’s what happened to The Strain (S3 was released on BD in Australia), but everywhere the 4th and final season was DVD only. While HBO comedies don’t seem to be good enough for BD, they really should ensure Veep (that actually went DVD only in Australia after 1 season), has a BD release for the 8th and last season. They’re still releasing Ballers on BD, so I would expect Veep will be too. |

The only HBO show I bought on Blu is the US release of The Leftovers, and was unfortunately underwhelmed by the image quality. The bit rate on each episode hovers around 15 to very rarely 18-20, which is about the quality of HBO on Amazon (bit rate is maxed at 15 on Amazon). If you watch HBO Go or Now, the bit rate is 5-10 max for any show (GoT, etc.). The best part is the audio upgrade and the ability to watch without having an internet connection..
That said, if Barry made it to Blu I'd buy them day one! |
