Hey all, bought the 360 hd dvd add on, loved it, as well as the 13 hd dvds i ordered. 4 days later, GUTTED. warner announcement. quickly got rid of the lot, only losing around £30, so didnt mind too much. bought a ps3 today, ordered a few uk blu rays, but decided to check out amazon.com as i heard it was cheap.
i began adding like crazy, racked up 10 blu rays, totalling $209 (£109) i choose normal shipping, and to group it as 1 package. to my horror, reading on another forum a few minutes ago it seems when they arrive there will be customs charges with it. and to make things worse i have had them shipped to my parents, as i am going there end of next week with my new ps3 to show it off. so am i right in saying the delivery person will be asking them for a shitload of money???? im really panicking about it. is it every single time, or is it just pot luck, and roughly how much will it be does any one know? any help would be greatly appreciated. oh, and i was red, but now im blu, and the future looks bright! |

Welcome, well i too live in the UK so you have my sympathy, you americans don't know how good you got it.
Well in response to your question, according to information on the HMRC website, the charges should be 3.5% of the total cost plus 17.5% for vat so it should be around 20 quid You can see for yourself here: http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsP...yType=document Now if you get charged or not is a matter of luck, but they have been clamping down on it recently so expect to get charged Also i hope you checked that the disc's you bought are region free so that they can play in your ps3 Last edited by eva-01; 01-15-2008 at 10:15 PM. |

Yeah its all the more frustating because you don't know if you'll be charged, its the luck of the draw. If you check out the website you'll see some really high charges for tobacco (75% +excise+17.5% vat
![]() ![]() There is a lot of stuff that is really cheap to buy in america, but the charges just put you off, i was recently going to buy a pair of Tang Band speakers for a diy project but when i found out the charges, i decided not to get it from america, and had them shipped in from germany (no charges within eu) |
