Default LCD vs. Plasma vs. DLP

Between LCD, Plasma and DLP HDTV technologies, which one do you find to be the overall best and why?

I love LCD's and the technology for LCD's to produce brighter colors and better blacks are getting a lot better. DLP's are nice, but you are not going to get the viewing angles of an LCD.

I Have LCD. I couldn't do Plasma. My cousin has a plasma, had, and it burned in it was also only purchased a month ago. and dlp, the angle thing throws me off. I really like my LCD. But I am planning on getting a plasma just for watching tv, NO gaming.

Why does that bother anyone when I'd assume most of the time you'd be wanting to sit right in front of the TV versus on the side or in some other off-kilter direction?

I have been gaming for 6 months on my plasma and have no burn in. You just need to do the all white and all color maint. every couple days. By the way there is not a richer color then a plasma.

I think DLP can at least be equal to a Plasma in terms of color.

LOL.....Plasma burn in is the thing of the past now. What brand did u cousin got his plasma? I would suggest stay with 2 P's (Panasonic and Pioneer)

I personally would stay away with unproven brand name for any kind TV's unless it has reliable sources to back it up.

There's plus and minus for all three. It all depends on:
1) Your lighting conditions (LCD's can be brighter in daylight)
2) If you have any off-axis watching (LCD's are not as side-watching friendly as plasma)
3) How much 4x3 content you watch ( careful with burn-in)
4) How long you play a game on a given day (6 hrs. or more can give you burn in on static images like health meters etc. LCD gets much less burn-in but plasma now gives you ways to counter burn-in if you don't wait until it's too late)
5) If the unit will be primarilly used for movies (plasma has, generally given better detail in the blacks - LCD has always been rather gray in the blacks no matter what the brightness setting.)

My advice is to wait for the new generation of LCD. New ones this year will have banks of small LCD's as opposed to the entire panel as one. This means in black areas, the new LCD panels will not try to shove light out, making the blacks gray... they will now just shut off. There's supposed to be something like 123 steps between full on and full off. SIM2 is coming out with this technology as are others.

I have seen a year old Sharp with terrible burn in. Scared me enough to go LCD, which I think is still a beautiful picture...

It isn't really a thing of the past if you have to do preventative maintenance every couple of days...

If you want size, I feel DLPs are the best bang for the buck. Picture is almost as good as an LCD, but there are some viewing angle issues. I got a great deal on one of Samsung's new ultra slim, light, whatever 1080p HDMI 1.3 DLPs and it's great.

But if I could afford a 61 inch LCD, that is what I would have gotten. I don't even know if they make them that big, but LCD is really the way to go right now. I just don't like the difference in size. You can get a 61 inch DLP for the same price as a 40 or so inch LCD. I don't like losing 20 inches. I would rather have a bigger TV. I always watch my movies from pretty much the same angle anyway, so I don't have any real issues with my DLP.

Laser TVs are probably next, but the technology will probably take a few more years to get the price competitive with LCDs and DLPs.

I wouldn't touch a plasma. Aren't those about two or three times the price of an equivalent LCD or DLP? And they have a bad reputation for dimming and/or burning out over a few years, and that would SUCK after paying two or three times as much for it. No thank you.

I think they all have their place but I voted LCD since I think it's the most flexible.

I think plasma is the way to go. I find the colors more organic and lifelike, and it tricks the eye into seeing real depth to the picture. I owned a Pioneer for 6 years and I used it as a computer monitor--the worst kind of static images. Even after all those years of daily use, there was no burn-in. Meanwhile plasma technology has improved. Can't wait until my Kuro arrives next week.

You left out the positives/negatives of going DLP... .

So, thus far the consensus is people prefer mostly LCD and Plasma over DLP...interesting. Besides the viewing-angle-issue (which, again, I don't get why that would be such a problem...) no one has really mentioned any other nitpicks for them.

I have LCD. But either way, if you get any of these choices with a known and respectable brand with 1080p, you can't go wrong.

I still could not understand what u trying to say here. Plasma is not as expensive as people think it is. U prob havent go ur local electronic store for the past years.

PLASMA =start out with 42" to 150" talk about size here Thye are great for gaming and especially BLU-RAY movies. With rich color and extremly deep black level.

LCD= is good for people who want smaller size screen. generally in their bedroom to play game or blu-ray. LCD can be very pricy for 50+. I would prefer large TV for blu-ray no matter what u say here

DLP =dont know too much about it but they do have large screen to start out with but still kinda bulky to me. Kinda waste space if u have limite room. Just my 2 CENTS

Yeah, but the way my setup is, some people watch from a bit of an angle if there are more than 5 people. To each his own.

You know, the funny thing is, it was a Panny. He bought it at best buy. Then, he finally took my advice and bought a Samsung 1080p LCD.
