Default Death Wish II (1982) coming from Vinegar Syndrome on April 26

Quote:
Paul Kersey thought his days as a vigilante were long behind him. But when his daughter and housekeeper are savagely assaulted and murdered, Paul is forced to take the law back into his own hands, hitting the tough, gang-filled streets of Los Angeles and embarking on a violent quest for justice. Realizing he has a ruthless vigilante on his hands, Detective Frank Ochoa races to put an end to the building carnage.

Nastier, grimier, and much more brutal than the original, Michael Winner’s (The Mechanic) DEATH WISH II once again stars the legendary Charles Bronson (The Great Escape, St. Ives), joined by Jill Ireland (Hard Times), Anthony Franciosa (Tenebre), Robin Sherwood (Tourist Trap), and Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix). Loaded with non-stop action and suspense and set to one of the few film scores composed by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Vinegar Syndrome is proud to bring this Cannon Films classic to 4K UHD and Blu-ray, newly restored from its uncensored original negative, and loaded with all new extra features, including its alternate TV version, presented for the first time in HD!

directed by: Michael Winner
starring: Charles Bronson, Jill Ireland, Anthony Franciosa, Robin Sherwood, Laurence Fishburne
1982 / 92 min / 1.85:1 / English Mono

For some reason I never got around to picking up any of the sequels on blu-ray, so this is a no-brainer for me. Procrastination pays off sometimes :P

The Shout release was good enough for me, so easy pass. If I was upgrading all my films to 4K I would get this for sure.

Agreed. My favorite in series. Can't wait to see Bronson trolling around at night in 4K getting revenge.

TV Version Comparison:

I'm really liking the effort companies (Vinegar Syndrome, Scream Factory, Criterion, and Sony) are now making to include the TV versions of movies.

This behind-the-scenes segment from a BBC TV show shows the filming of the scene from the beginning of the movie that was shot at Olvera Street in Los Angeles. The best part is director Michael Winner picking a random couple visiting Olvera Street to appear in the movie. He first asks for "two people in love" and, when no one volunteers, he says he'll take two people "not in love."

If you are wondering why there are so many school buses in the background, it is because it is a popular destination for school field trips in Southern California.

Man, I wasn't expecting this. I already have Death Wish 2 on Blu-ray (the Shout Factory version) but this 4k UHD is going to be really tempting. I will probably pull the trigger on it.

Just ordered this. It'll be my first time watching and I'll be going for the uncut version right away. Should I watch the original Death Wish first, or does it not matter much?

The first Death Wish is the superior movie, imo. It also sets up Charles Bronson's character and a bit of the back story that is touched on in the sequel. I would say yes, but if you know the story it's not necessarily going to make part 2 completely unintelligible or anything.

Yeah, it’s not like DW2 requires seeing the original to follow (not exactly a complicated backstory, and whatever minimal past links to the 1st movie are explained in exposition), but I’d watch the original first just because it’s a better movie, and a terrific 70’s vigilante movie in its own right.

Blu Ray of the first is a ten-spot on Amazon right now.

I had the Greek VHS because it was the longest version without being a composite version. I don't recall much about what was different though.
