Default The Shadow (1994) Coming From Umbrella

I haven't seen this announced on Facebook or anything yet, it's not even on Umbrella's site, but EzyDVD have a listing for an Umbrella release of Russell Mulcahy's The Shadow on DVD and Blu-ray.

Link here: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/blu-ray/The-Shadow/dp/6219359

I've created a listing accordingly:

I'll keep an eye on this. Maybe there's interview material with Mulcahy from Not Quite Hollywood about this flick that Umbrella can pop on the disc. I'll also be interested to see how the encode holds up (assuming they use the remaster prepared by Shout as opposed to Universal's old DVD-era master).

Had the UK copy for a while....but even that was a 2015 release...

But......what ever happened to John Lone...

I was watching him the other night in the Umbrella copy of THE LAST EMPEROR and he’s in a favourite YEAR OF THE DRAGON...

But without checking IMDB I can’t recall much else

I watched a bit of this on my DVD the other night and been considering getting it on Blu-ray but it turned out that the Shout Factory release was superior to the Universal one and couldn't get it.

I'd rather see The Shadow getting a new scan than just another encode from either the Uni or the Shout remaster. Both look like old masters with different processing applied and neither are all that great imho.

I emailed Umbrella yesterday about this and all they could say was the disc will be mastered in .265.

I'd assume Umbrella will get what they're given. They wouldn't have the resources to do a new scan themselves, I'd assume.

Most likely. I have the Shout and the Koch release already so I'll sit this one out as it will most likely be more of the same.
It would have been interesting if Arrow could've taken a stab at The Shadow, unfortunately it ended up with Mediumrare instead.

Mediumrare just ported the Shout release across, it could have been far worse.

That Koch disc....*shudder*

But it did come with a bunch of extras that the Shout and Mediumrare did not.

Umbrella's site has been updated with finalised artwork and has stated there will be DTS-HD 5.1 audio but no extras.

Well, the text was for The Shadow, but the image and pre-order link was for Who Am I?

They've since changed the image (only on Facebook), but not the link despite everyone one pointing it out.

Their Facebook posts are often littered with spelling mistakes and what I assume are cases of autocorrect putting in the wrong word here and there, but this one was truly next-level. I guess they don’t have a dedicated social media person, because those FB posts look like rush jobs.

Makes me wonder if it will be a port of the much-maligned Universal release, which matches those specs. If the transfer is taken from the Shout release, I just might bite, though. The extras on the Shout release are pretty minor, though the new featurette would have been nice.

I know for a fact they use to have a dedicated social media person, but not anymore and it really shows, unfortunately.

My hunch tells me this edition will feature Univeral's janky HD master and not the SF remaster, otherwise Umbrella would have at least mentioned new transfer of some sort.

Sadly, your hunch is likely to be correct.

When I originally asked them which master they would be using, they wouldn't tell me.
