Default The BBC to stay neutral in High def. war for time being.

Since their Planet Earth on HD-DVD has sold better than the blu-ray version, the BBC plans to stay neutral for the time being. Oh well give it a few weeks and they will be completly blu.

Which makes so much sense since the HD DVD player sales are gonna skyrocket given their explosive performance during CES. Or was that implosive?

I wonder if they realize that a portion (cant really say how much) of those sales were by mistake following the Oprah thing?
It happens probably all the time, e.g. last week, a colleague (who isn't ready to make th jump to HDTV in general) told me that he had to bring back HP5 to the store he bought it at as he didn't realize it was a HD DVD when he bought it, but thought it was a DVD.

Ah well, they'll go Blu Exclu eventually, no bother.

Didn't Oprah pimp the HD-DVD version? And hasn't it been out longer than the Blu-ray version? That might explain the disparity in sales. The good news is that they are still supporting Blu.

Come on, BBC... I'd really love to have US region-coded Blu-rays of Dr. Who, Robin Hood and Torchwood, among others. I really enjoy those shows.

That said, it's only a matter of time before they go 100% Blu. They won't have much choice given the market conditions, considering their decision to stay neutral is being determined by the sales of 1 title.

The HD-DVD version only sold more copys because there wasn't alot else for DUD fans to buy.

Give it time, if things continue as they are ALL studios wont have much choice.

Well, Oprah inadvertently pimped the HD DVD version, so I do understand BBC.

I also don't care, since they don't believe in lossless audio. I have yet to buy a single one of their releases.

Which is a shame, since I do adore their work.

For the most part PE on HD DVD has always sold better than the BD version, though lifetime sales got very close during the summer and fall until the recent Christmas explosion where the Oprah factor/mistake certainly helped the HD DVD version. I figured BBC would stay neutral solely because of PE. Warner only distributes their product. BBC is calling the shots on their own stuff.

Wow what a great news for the DUD! Well actually its not even a news as nothing has change anywayz. I guess DUD just extended their life for another day. Nothing will prevent their final death.

BBC is the last domino at the end...eventually, the downfall effect will hit them. It will happen.

If you give them a choice to ether pick HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and never be able to change back, then I'm sure they'll drop HD-DVD without hesitation.

When their profits on Planet Earth dry up they'll come begging us to buy the Blu-ray. Whatever floats their boat.....
