Not sure if this worth upgrading from the rare dvd I found years ago.
Now if the making of doc had input from Ashlyn Gere/Kim McKamy, it would be a no-brainer. Hell, the doc is still tempting. Also sad that the dvd has some features this doesn't. That dvd used to be big $, looks like it's cheap and easy now (just like your mom)!

It's weird they didn't include the commentary. I wonder why the story is there

It may be due to the VS disc running several minutes longer than the cut of the film used on the old DVD. That was 87 minutes, where the VS Blu-ray "restoration" is 91 minutes with the re-shoot gore footage. They perhaps could have tried to sync it with the longer cut they used, but there still would have been some awkward silence. I also seem to remember the audio levels of the original commentary being a little wonky at times.

I'm hanging onto my old Program Power DVD. It has quite a few other bonus features that weren't ported over; i.e. the Brascia/Baio Interview, the original PDF screenplay, etc.

I have yet to watch the Blu-ray in full, but a disclaimer page comes up before the film starts regarding them and 60 seconds had to be sourced from a video master, as no film elements could be found for those shots. So it is indeed a longer cut, but as to what exactly is different I'd need to compare with the old DVD.

Did anyone else think that the movie made it seem like….
[Show spoiler]the killer was at her own home during one of the murders? At the reveal I was like “how could it have been her”?

The VS blu-ray has a commentary track by The Hysteria Continues (two guys who do a podcast, I believe). Not sure when it was recorded. Was there a different commentary track on the DVD edition you're referring to.

Yes on the DVD there was a commentary by the writer/director Dominick Brascia and star Steven Baio

Interesting, thanks. I just finished listening to the commentary on tbe blu-ray, which was newly recorded. They mention at one point it is 2022 when they are recording.

The guys made an interesting documentary. It was interesting. It seems Karyn O'Bryan was embarrassed, she hides the film from the children)

Anyone else think Kevin Williamson borrowed a bit from Evil Laugh when writing Scream?

Before Randy the horror geek in Scream, there was the Fangoria-reading Barney in Evil Laugh, who advises his friends on the rules of surviving a horror movie, including the dangers of sexual promiscuity. "You're going to have sex? Don't! Every time someone has sex in a horror story they get murdered!"

There's even a scene that mirrors the moment in Scream in which Rose McGowan's character comes face to face with the killer, think it's her friend trying to scare her, and teases him by pretending to play the victim.

C'mon, Williamson, show your work!

That said, it's not nearly as clever as Scream, but it's a cheesy good time and I'm glad it's finally coming to Blu. I think I still have the old Program Power "Lucky 13 Cult Collectibles" DVD somewhere.

There’s Nothing Out There also shares similar self-referential elements.

Oh for sure! It's a few years after Evil Laugh, but it also has the Randy prototype horror-nerd character.

I hate it when VS takes down their product pages for an entire month so you can't even look at them. What was Evil Laugh with the slip selling for in November (not the MSRP, but the usual non-sale discounted price)? Thanks.
