The Raid 4K.jpg

https://www.reddit.com/r/4kbluray/co...firm_the_raid/

Gareth Evans is going back and colour correcting his release to how he originally envisioned. Examples can be seen here (I can't save the photos for some reason): https://www.reddit.com/r/4kbluray/co...of_4k_release/

Exciting news though, I was just thinking about The Raid films today going to 4K lol hopefully the sequel comes soon.

The fact the Evans isn't a household name and the most in-demand action director in the industry is a shameful commentary on the world we live in.

It was shot on the prosumer Panasonic AG-AF100 most likely in 1080p/24p (which I believe was the highest setting).

I liked both of The Raid films a lot.

But the action scenes in 'Gangs of London' are some of the most comically over the top sequences in recent memory. And not for good reason.

The shootout in episode 5 of season 1 is genuinely one of the worst shootouts in any film or show over the last five years. At least in terms of a production that occupies a real budget.

His action chops may have peaked early with The Raid films.

Hopefully this set includes a bluray with the new colour grading too, I don't have a 4k player but both Raid movies are some of my absolute favourite films so I'm interested to see how this now looks.

This movie looks like absolute dogshit. But I’m down for seeing what a UHD can do with it.

Edit: I mean, I love the movie, it was just shot on a potato

The new colour grade is hopefully an exciting development. I rewatched both back to back a year or two ago on the existing blu rays, and it was pretty astounding how washed out the first one looked.

Oh, I agree 100%. The world needs Hammer Girl and Baseball Bat Man in 4K UHD.
I know most people prefer the original, and I do love it as well, but I actually like the sequel more. I love the epic, Godfather-ish meets "Kung-Fu" melodrama myself. Obviously, it's bigger and bolder and Evans had more money this time. I know the length of the films bothers a lot of people, but I appreciate the fact that Evans wanted to do something a little different in the sequel and broaden the scope and not just rehash the basic plot of the original. And did I mention the wonderful Hammer Girl and Baseball Bat Man?

I, like Geoff, love this movie to bits - one of my top 10 theater experiences, bar none - but have always thought the cinematography was never its strong suit (more of a necessity). My initial reaction to a 4K release was skepticism - how much could be done with the washed out, smeary, barely 1080p images - but those screenshots look very, very promising. (Hopefully they'll also include both music scores with the original, "Redemption"-free title.)

Cinematography is more than just color grade tho. I think the movie is well shot, for an action movie there's some really nice shot composition and framing that allows you to fully appreciate the fight choreography. The problem is the cameras they used and the fact that Gareth Evans was somewhat inexperienced as a filmmaker at the time, especially at post-production.

Honestly, as much as I dislike directors radically changing the intended look of a film, I can't deny that the new color grade looks way more visually appealing than the original.
