Equipment: Vizio V705-G3
Denon AVR-X1300W DirecTV Genie H34 Chromecast Ultra I originally had my Vizio connected via ARC to the Denon, as well as the Genie and CC Ultra. My question is how can my wife go about watching regular satellite TV without the receiver automatically coming on every time, just use the TV speakers unless it's movies with the CC Ultra. It's a big mess every time she just wants to watch TV and it ain't pretty, especially if I'm not around to deal with it. ![]() Now I have the sat box going to the TV with an HDMI and optical cable, and it works fine, no Denon. I can switch to the Denon and get satellite through the surround sound. I am also trying the CC Ultra to the Denon, but am confusing myself all to heck. Can I connect the CC to the TV, then run another optical from the TV to the other optical on the Denon and get CC Ultra sound and video through the Denon? Can I also just watch the CC Ultra with TV speakers only? I know I'm somehow making this harder than it has to be, but just can't figure it out. ![]() Thank you. ![]() |

Generally, if you can isolate the equipment you don't want to interfere with your other half's viewing habits to their own outlet or power strip you can leave them off until you use them.
The devices should know that there's no audio outputs connected and route the audio through the TV. When you want surround switch on the devices and it should do them same. You might run into issues with pass-through, but if you can manage to plug the Chromecast and the Genie into your Vizio and use ARC for the audio you should be alright. I have a Denon with a BD player plugged into the TV (with audio going to AVR), but if the Denon is in stand-by it cuts audio to the TV, so I have it on it's own outlet. When the Denon is off, the player sends audio to the TV directly. |

I think I have it set, other than the Denon still kicks on after I turn it off to watch TV through the TV speakers. It'll turn on again by itself after being turned off when the TV is through its speakers. Frustrating.

I think it literally needs to have no power going to it, so stand-by won't work, the outlet or power strip will need to be turned off.
