Default Reprising roles years after they became famous.

OK so today's confirmation that Grant, Ellie and Ian will be back for Jurassic World 3 has got my emotions all over the place at the moment. I have no idea how I feel about it as they are some of my most beloved characters in my favourite movie and lets just say them in the current JW movies doesn't fill me with confidence. I am struggling to see how these newer films will do those characters justice but we will see.

Outside of that it got me wondering about actors reprising their famous roles years later. It will be 30 years nearly (cant believe I am saying that) since JP and I am wondering just how well the actors will slip back into character?

So out of curiosity what examples can you think of where famous characters return years later by the same actor and it works great or doesn't work at all?

I would start by saying I thought Harrison Ford pretty much just played Harrison Ford in BR 2049 and didn't seem to really channel Deckard.

Arnie has always delivered the goods as The Terminator. No matter how good or bad the movie is.

I’m curious as to how Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will be as old Bill & Ted.

Paul Newman as Fast Eddie Felson. From "The Hustler" (1961) to "The Color of Money" (1986).

Considering that all of the three original JP actors reprised their roles (at least briefly, in Dern's case) after JP, I don't think it'll make a huge difference. Goldblum was just in Fallen Kingdom last year (and Ian Malcolm is basically just Goldblum anyway, like pretty much all of his roles are). These actors are pros, I wouldn't worry about their abilities. Worried more about what the script gives them to work with.

Would Peter Cushing as Holmes in The Hound of the Baskerville and then again for the TV show years later count?

Should we also count Goldblum’a blink and you’ll miss it cameo on the book jacket in Jurassic World?

Malcolms cameo in FK doesn't really count. It was too short to guage whether he fell back into the roll well enough. Bill and Ted will be a good one.

Some actors seem to fall back into character easily while others seem to just be doing an impression of the character rather than becoming them again.
