Default Car Rating/Review Sites

Does anyone here know of some good review or ratings site for buying a car? I am in the market to get one very soon, but am having trouble finding any useful, unbiased information. I know that Toyota and Honda are the kings right now, but I've heard Hyundai has improved alot recently as well. Some people also say that the american cars are just as good as the japanese cars now. I am not a car guy so I honestly don't know if any of this is true or if they are full of it. But anyway, please share your opinions, and/or hopefully link me to a good site.

thanks in advance

you're better off narrowing your choices down to say..5 cars and go test drive each. then use that information to see if that particular car has any sort of troubles.

what were you looking to get? and you're right. hard to go wrong with toyota or honda. and yes hyundai has made some great strides. i'm not convinced american is as good as foreign just yet tho

I'm interested in any 4 door sedan that gets good mileage. mainly been considering corolla, camry, elantra, sonata, civic, accord, and even some american like the new ford fusions. I've also heard pontiac vibes are good, but I think they look a little too weird for me

Consumerreports.com is very good, but requires a subscription.

I have also used Edmunds.com for reviews and information.

i've never liked consumer reports. it wasn't until this year that they stopped using previous years to judge reliability

And it's exactly why the original poster thinks that Toyota is king still, sorry they haven't been in over a half a decade. They pay off half these magazines or treat them to 5 star vacations while testing these cars to skew their votes and reviews also. Toyota makes some of the most least reliable vehicles on the road today, including the Camry and Tundra which was finally recognized as the least dependable full size pickup on the market today.

At least give the American companies a chance, i really cant stand retards who wont even look at what they have to offer and go straight to Honda or Toyota ready to support the Japanese economy!

www.caranddriver.com

Great site with great writing. Although they are more for the enthusiast with a need for speed

Its true that American cars are now as reliable as Japanese cars. I read an article in the Wall Street Journal talking about that. Its just the bad memories from the 90's are hard to erase from the general public's mind. I mean they do offer 100,000 mile warranties which is called a "credible signal" (of quality) in economics.

Edmunds is usually pretty good with their reviews, I've found. I would probably lean toward Toyota . . . most of the American cars in that price range/class offer a good product if you lace them out with options, but then your price point goes up significantly (almost 20k for a decent Focus). Plus, the overall build quality of most American cars is garbage compared to the imports. Toyotas and Hondas don't really need a lot to make them good cars to drive everyday. I just picked up a Scion Xb for our new business and it's a fantastic car. VERY comfortable, rides very nicely (I drive 70 miles one way to work and it's like riding on a sofa), gets pretty decent gas mileage, LOTS of cargo area . . . I like it a lot.

Don't know a lot about the Fusion, other than I think it's a stupid looking car . . . it's like a cross between a 5th Gen Honda Prelude (front) and a Crown Vic. The AWD version would probably be a decent car, but you'll pay the price on the sticker and in gas.

The Vibe is the Toyota Matrix, and vice versa. Except it's more Pontiac than Toyota.

edmunds.com
cars.com
familycar.com

Car Mag Sites:
motortrend.com
caranddriver.com
roadandtrack.com
autoweek.com

just some examples.
I tend to read through all them to sort out the bs about new models and then I would decide. You need to narrow yourself down to SUV/CAR and then pick a couple brands and models and then go test drive them.
