That's my thinking. I don't understand why he does such low level stuff like Get Hard, Ferrell can do intelligent stuff, so I'm hoping this is something he's passionate towards, and isn't just a strange idea just to be irreverent for the sake of it.

Ferrell's got Daddy's Home 2 to pay the bills, I think (hope) that he's doing this out of artistic integrity and wanting the challenge. Part of me thinks he saw Adam McKay win an Oscar without him and thought "hell, I should do more movies like that."

Depends who you ask, recently there's been quite a re-evaluation of some of his (and Nancy's) social policies and reticence to act upon or acknowledge certain burgeoning issues.

This sounds like an insulting movie.
John Heubusch, executive director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, just issued this statement: "Anyone supporting the idea of such a movie ought to first familiarize themselves with the remarkable pain and anguish that families afflicted with Alzheimer's are visited with every day. It's a tragedy that one in every nine families in America will be visited with and we find it disgusting that such a film would even be considered by Mr. Ferrell or anyone else." Pretty much that. Screw Will Ferrell and this movie. ![]() |

This movie screams bad idea. Let's forget for a moment the central focus is a guy named Reagan and he was a real guy who was president of the US. It's a movie that is playing for laughs someone losing their mind to Alzheimer's. Sorry, I just fail to see the humor. Add in the Reagan factor and you drag out torches and pitchforks in a hurry, as edits in this thread have already shown.

I was in my early teens and lived with my grandmother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, and later took care of my grandfather who outlived my grandmother, but in the last two years of his life suffered from Dementia.
From ages 14 to 23, with little help from aunts, uncles, and cousins, my single mother, myself, and my older sister were the primary caregivers for my grandmother. Visiting nurse services were unreliable, and getting help without my mother having to pay for it, as at the time nursing homes were way expensive and had little or no oversight for protecting patients, was out of the question. And when the visiting nurse services were at my house, they stole from my grandparents. Jewelry went missing, silverware too. I had to give up many a night both school and weekend, to help my mother. Missed out on alot of school activities, and had to hear about it second hand. Prepare meals, bathe her, help her in the bathroom, were everyday things that I had to help with. I don't wish it on anyone, to have to see your parents or grandparents changed by this, or even the difficult things like having to see them in some state of undress struggling with just wiping their own @$$... So to say this is a little close to me, yeah. But I have to tell you...I really feel that if you can't laugh at life, just go be miserable somewhere else. I have NO problem with this movie. And I hope it is FUNNY. Not every moment, experienced was bad. Some were downright comical. The point is there was good moments too. The PC police, or even the "Right" political party, and their complaints about the former President being satirized like this are out of line. Everybody, thing, is fair game to be satirized. Get over yourself. You'll laugh alot more... Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk |

This movie seems absolutely disgusting. The thing that is offensive, beyond the obvious everyone else has covered, is that it seems to be a comedy with Will Ferrell of all people so it's not taking the subject matter seriously at all. That's insulting enough, but it tells you the lack of respect they have. Even if you don't like Reagan, so what? He's a beloved President to many of people and nobody NEEDS another insipid Ferrell comedy poking fun at him. What's the point, this movie shouldn't be made if it makes anyone feel bad.

Yeah, it's like even if it was making fun of someone awful (like Hinkley for example), what's the point? It's not funny to pick on someone's illness just because we don't "like" them. And this is dumb because they're manufacturing the notion that Reagan was debilitated while in office as genuine fact, when it's not even close to true or provable.

How this idea got to a point where more than 2 or 3 people heard about it is the most amazing thing to me.
