It's not a movie score, but Jan Hammer's music from the Miami Vice TV series is perfect, just perfect.

"Crockett's Theme" by Jan Hammer

I own all five seasons of Miami Vice on DVD, and I'd just about sell my soul to have them in high definition on Blu-ray.

I consider the first and 2nd episode as a movie. TBH Michael Mann should have made a scene by scene remake with the 2006 movie it might have been better if we had a villain like Calderone or even more music.

I always try to include 'Chase (Extended version)' from Midnight Express to my 70's/80's playlist -

Sorry to be a killjoy, but I really don't care for the 70s and 80s fad of the synthesizer musical score and glad that is has pretty much vanished.

Like anything else, it could be used as a trendy crutch but it definitely had its moments too. When used properly it had a very distinctive feeling specific to its era much like grainy and desaturated said 'seventies' or a rich, Technicolor look could say fifties/sixties'.

Could it be grating? Sure. But most of the stuff listed here was pretty damn good.

Wow. I actually really like the soundtrack. Some songs I don't really care for, but the main theme in the opening, certainly, and some others here and there, and the ending after
[Show spoiler]Tony dies.
