Default Celine and Julie Go Boating (Rivette, 1974) - New Yorker Video - Spring 2012

This is really exciting that we're finally getting some Rivette!

New Yorker Video's past incompetency is well documented and if you've ever seen one of their prints...... let's just say they're no Janus.

With this said, I feel optimistic (Kino's past was never as good as their current quality of output so why can't another company get it right?). I think the print and the blu-ray will be excellent.

I checked New Yorker Films' site and no touring information is listed yet. More information to come very soon and let's hope the folks handling the Blu-ray take good care with this one.

Good news - this film is highly regarded and it was never even released on DVD in the U.S. Maybe New Yorker Video can also release La belle noiseuse, since they released it on DVD (although it is out of print, so I don't know if they still have the rights).

It's nearly spring and I haven't seen news of the print touring. Has anyone heard anything yet?

well considering New Yorker has yet to release My Dog Tulip on blu after they said it was coming out months ago doesn't bode well for any bds from them.
who knows what they are thinking.

I e-mailed them a few weeks ago - it's still coming but they don't have a date for it. My Dog Tulip is out on April 10th.

Thanks for the update. Just concerned because the Cleveland Cinematheque doesn't have it on its March-April schedule. On the other hand, WEEKEND has been booked for April.

I remember seeing this advertised last year. Hopefully it's done well, the dvd is ok, but this is a film that can definitely benefit from the format change.

Well folks, here we are in April 2012 and still no word on this release, either.

Maybe New Yorker should just stick to theatrical distribution from now on...

They've said the theatrical release will be in Summer. Presumably the Blu-Ray will be after that but I wouldn't be surprised to still be waiting in a year's time.

At this point, our efforts for CELINE AND JULIE... are concentrated on re-releasing it in a new 35mm print -- first stop is Film Forum in New York starting May 4. The home video release will be scheduled after that.

Unfortunately, for MY DOG TULIP, that Blu-ray, which was to have been released in a special limited edition, is indefinitely on hold.

they told me just last week that My Dog Tulip was definitely coming out before the end of the year.
I mean, it's just sad that they aren't willing to release it on blu-ray.
They obviously don't think they can make any $ on a blu-ray release.
simple as that.
there is no other reason it could be.
the death of retail has really hurt bd imo.
(plus a lot of other stuff of course)

Can you blame a company not wanting to release a product that isn't going to turn a profit for them? How many people would actually be buying the blu-ray? This thread has now only garnered 14 posts since its inception last October with only 8, not counting myself, unique users. I hope New Yorker can pull it out, but after already shutting down once I can't expect too much from them.

why did they release the dvd of MDT then?
the price for the dvd is basically the same, and I doubt it sold many copies.
imo they should have either not released anything or made the release a combo release.
I mean I guess blu-ray really is in trouble if they are going to take a brand new film and release it only on dvd 6 years after blu-ray started and not release a bd at all.
I mean good grief.
it just makes me sad.

How do you know that it isn't going to turn a profit? By looking at this thread?
Posting in a random thread isn't an indicator about whether or not a title would sell.

The fact of the matter is this: New Yorker's return to the home video market has been very shaky. It has nothing to do with Blu-ray, or formats in general. They are an extremely small operation now, and from what I understand, they could be run a lot better. (Octubre basically had zero publicity).

Perhaps there would be more interest if we had anything from them other than a vague announcement that did not come to fruition. The door swings both ways--they need to release some product first before people start saying the market is too small for it.

the My Dog Tulip thread is like 3 pages.
of course most posts are about possible release dates, postponements, phone calls and emails to New Yorker, new pre-order dates, postponements etc. etc.
New Yorker needs to just sh@t or get off the pot.

Maybe the BFI will release it eventually in the U.K. They released a DVD a few years back and the quality was pretty decent.

Love Rivette, hopefully if/when they release a blu, it'll sell well enough for them to release La Belle Noiseuse next. The DVDs are pretty poor quality.
