Any hope that we will ever see the second season released to DVD? Or possibly get both seasons on blu-ray? I really enjoy this show and it is such a shame that it seems to not get any love. I remember seeing a petition to get the second season released... wonder if it has had any effect?

Ratings were pretty dire in the U.S. (I'm surprised that it even got renewed for a second season), and the fact that the second season hadn't been released on DVD anywhere in the world (to my knowledge) has pretty much ruled out any chance of it coming out on physical media. Considering how much time has passed since the second season had aired, I think the home video ship has sailed. Japan is the only region where the entirety of Glee is available on Blu-ray (to my knowledge), and I had checked a few years ago to see if Scream Queens would have received similar treatment; alas...
They would only need four BD-50s, so a complete series on Blu would be pretty sweet, and if they advertise the presence of some of the bigger stars on the show (particularly Jamie-Lee Curtis and Taylor Lautner, and perhaps Lea Michele to appeal to Glee fans), they could attract some potential blind-buyers. It was enjoyable while it lasted, but they played it *really* safe by not killing off any major characters. I think they should have taken more risks in season 2, but they still shied away from killing off any of the major cast members (even though it *almost* seemed like they were going to kill off Abigail Breslin early on in season 2). And in typical Ryan Murphy fashion, he panders to the fickle whims of the loudest fans and dumps characters if they whine and moan loudly enough (such as the unceremonious dumping of the protagonist played by Skyler Samuels in season 1, and the sudden backtracking on the ill-fated "next generation" cast members first introduced in the fourth season of Glee, who had all been dumped in the latter half of the show's fifth season). He consistently has no long-term vision for any of his shows, hence why they fizzle after only a season or two, particularly as the show panders more and more to what the fans demand, overwhelmingly to the detriment of his shows. I briefly considered buying the first season on DVD (though I resented the lack of a Blu-ray version), but I rightfully had doubts that the second season would have been made available in any form on physical media, so I decided to hold out. FOX has already burned us before by ceasing production of Blu-rays and suddenly reverting to DVD for many of their shows, and the colossal middle-finger that that they had dished out with their termination of The Simpsons on home video had killed whatever goodwill I have ever had for them. Perhaps a smaller label will consider releasing it on physical media at some point in the future, but I strongly doubt that Fox/Disney would foot the bill. Either way, I strongly doubt that we will ever see the series again on physical media. |
