Looks like they have a decent amount of Arrow and Hammer titles, plus foreign horror too.

So I signed up for the beta but then didn't actually get it.

Discovered by accident that it was now live and signed up for the free trial but ended up cancelling.

So much of the content doesn't appear to be available in the UK and it was frustrating to only have access to such a small fraction of the content on there. At least other streaming services don't show you the content you could have if you lived somewhere else, they just don't include it at all.

Looks like a pretty solid collection. Anyone joined? What's the price rate? Streaming quality?

I love it, went for $50/year. Quality is good, but I have to admit I usually watch on my iPad with the app (there is a Roku channel as well).

I've caught up on a lot of films, especially Italian horror & giallo, as well as 80's horror. Last weekend I watched Waxwork, The Mutilator, and Blood Rage. They have some originals, too, but I haven't checked those out yet.

I adore Shudder and watch it through the Amazon Firestick

just in the past 2 weeks I've caught up on a ton of movies I was on the fence to purchase including Opera, The Stendhal Syndrome, City of the Living Dead, Demons 2, House, House II, Happy Birthday to Me, Basket Case, Phantasm III, Phantasm IV, The Stuff, May, Lair of the White Worm, Parents.

It's saved me a lot of money on crap I would have blind bought or bought through misplaced nostalgia and given me great confidence to spend the money I do have on pricey BD's I'll be happy to buy.

Amazon offers Shudder through one of their channels. What's the difference between subscribing through Amazon Channels and subscribing directly to Shudder?

That's a good point. I've definitely gone 20+ years or so without watching some movies and was eager to buy them on blu only to realize they don't have the same emotional value anymore. Not surprising when it happens with kids programming but it is kind of sad with horror/sci-fi. For example, The Wraith did not hold up nearly as well as I remembered as a child and I'm glad I streamed it on Netflix instead of buying the expensive JP import.

There are less movies available through the Amazon channel. There are a few movies that I had to go online and stream directly because they were not available through the Firestick

I have this monthly through prime and it is 100% worth it.

the only weird I thing I notice, sometimes you may run into a title that is on shudder standalone and not the Amazon add on.

the only thing I can think of recently is mountain of the cannibal god.

I recently got into a bit of a tiff with Shudder. I dunno what it is like in other countries but in the UK Shudder through Shudder and Shudder through Prime are two completely different accounts. My PS4 is my home media centre so I went to watch Shudder through the Prime app and realised I couldn't but Shudder also doesn't have a PS4 app, despite having an Xbox One one for years. They initially refused to refund me, giving me some copy pasted company line but I was just trying to explain to them I wanted my money back so I could take out the membership again through Prime. However if they refused to do that, then I told them to stuff me as a customer if they expected me to pay for the same service twice just so I could watch it through my PS4. They eventually escalated my complaint and gave me my money back. I took out an annual subscription before someone calls me a ***** for doing that over a fiver.

However I have now discovered on Amazon that they don't have the complete Shudder library. Anything classed as a "Shudder Exclusive" it seems, is literally exclusive to your Shudder account and not your Shudder account through Prime.

It is just such a bafflingly stupid business model that truly blows my mind.

For your Shudder trial I highly recommend Blind Sun, We Go On, Lake Nowhere and Leslie Vernon.

They won’t last long imo, if they carry on with that.

For anyone that's interested in Shudder, I recommend checking out VRV.

https://vrv.co/

For $9.99/month you get Shudder, Crunchyroll, Funimation, Mubi, DramaFever, the complete Stargate library, and a bunch of other cool stuff.

As far as I know when I did the trial, it was not the complete libraries of those services. It gave you access to selected parts of Shudder, Funimation, Mubi, and DramaFever. Since Stargate is part of the VRV select then you have the whole collection. For Crunchyroll, they let you use you link your VRV account to Crunchyroll to access the entire library through a seperate app/website.

For $10 a month though, its not a bad all you watch sampler

There are a couple titles that aren't available on VRV due to licensing issues. And those issues often get fixed (like One Piece). In most cases it seems to be old catalog stuff with old licensing deals.

I've been a VRV subscriber for about a year. And I haven't run into any problems with something I wanted to watch being unavailable. So I wouldn't call it a "sampler". It's say it's closer to 98%.

One of the downsides of VRV is the app. It's not as good as the individual apps. It has stupid "lists" and can be hard to find stuff. Usually I have to search for a particular title instead of browsing the entire catalog.

On the positive side, the app is available on almost all devices. So if you can't get Shudder on the PS4, this might be a good alternative.

Sadly not available in Canada despite the fact that pretty much all of these individual services are available.

I just compared the libraries at VRV and Shudder. I only did A-M, but I didn't find anything that wasn't available.

https://vrv.co/shudder/browse
https://www.shudder.com/movies/all-m...747?sort=title

Actually, VRV had two titles that weren't on Shudder. Blood Feast (1963) and Maniac (2012). I'm guessing that the titles expired on Shudder and VRV didn't get the message to remove them.

And I only see about 30 films available on the Mubi website. As far as I can tell, they remove the titles after 30 days. VRV has over 550 movies in their Mubi section. I don't think they remove anything from Mubi.

My family subscribes to Shudder and it's the best streaming service we have. Good horror movies and good series. The difference between Shudder, Hulu, Netflix, etc, is that Shudder is actually worth it. The movies and shows on Shudder are worth watching.

Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc, most content on those sucks. But the content on Shudder does not suck. Browse the content on Shudder.com and see for yourself.

Shudder is a mere 4.99 a month, and the best streaming service I've used.
