Talking "The Tudors" Final Season

Showtime will premiere the fourth and final campaign of its historical melodrama The Tudors on April 11 at 9 p.m. So I figured we could use this time to start discussing the final season of the show.

The Tudors is surely a great show, and it doesn't get the praise it deserves. I'm obviously really looking forward to Season four, but it's bittersweet that this will be the last season for The Tudors.

Showtime will be following up on the success of the Tudors run, with "The Borgias" starring Jeremy Irons and Colm Feore who actually just signed onto the project yesterday. Have you heard anything about this? I've been following it for about 6 months now, and while The Tudors will be no more, atleast Showtime is sticking with the historical theme.

Quote:
"Borgias," which has a received a 13-episode order, is set in Italy in 1492 and revolves around a powerful crime family headed by patriarch Rodrigo Borgia (Irons).

Feore, who recently recurred on Fox's "24," would play the key role of Borgia's nemesis, Cardinal Giuliano Della Rovere, who vigorously opposes Borgia's election as Pope Alexander VI and continues to tangle with him.

I have been keeping an eye on The Borgias, but I had not yet known that Feore was on board. Thanks for that little casting tidbit, it's definitely a show that intrigues me and I can only hope that it is as good as The Tudors.

Ok, I really love The Tudors and have seen every episode twice. But how is season 4 going to work? We are already past the point in Henry VIII's life where he was fat and ugly. Rhys Myers without an "ugly makeover" just isn't believable. Are they really going to protray Henry as good-looking this final season?

Nope, he is going to be fat and ugly. Lol, anyways i remember reading quite awhile back we are finally going to see him Brando'd up but I have yet to see photo evidence of that.

I love the show but never got around to finishing season 2. I think I'll just wait for the entire series to be on Blu-ray. Any word on a set after season 4? I believe 1 and 2 are only available in the UK?

I have the first two seasons on Blu-ray that I imported from the UK, and I will be importing Season 3 from the UK as well. I believe they are also available from Canada, but I highly recommend importing them from the UK. They are excellent releases.

Hey Moviefan1203, this was announced today.

Quote:
Showtime's drama series "The Borgias" has found its Cesare.

Actor Francois Arnaud ("I Killed My Mother") will take the role in the series.

Cesare is the ambitious son of Rodrigo Borgia (Jermey Irons) in the show, which is billed as a Renaissance-era crime family drama. Neil Jordan directs the pilot. Thirteen episodes have been ordered. Arnaud is repped by APA.

"Borgias" will effectively replace the outgoing "Tudors" as the network's lavish period drama.

Still haven't gotten around to watching the premiere. Not really at the top of my to do list, I'll probably get to it after I saved a couple of them up on the DVR. Anyways, figured I'd share this.........

'Tudors' returns to series high ratings

Showtime's final season of "The Tudors" returned Sunday night to its largest audience ever. The 16th century Vanity Fair photo spread / drama series delivered 833,000 viewers, up 22% from the season three premiere. With its repeat airing, the "Tudors" tally climbed to 1.1 million -- too bad King Henry didn't live longer!

Can't believe it's almost all over. Just 10 minutes till the final episode of The Tudors. I'm really going to miss it when it's all over.

WTF? They actually had the Duke of Norfolk die in the final episode of The Tudors? He died a full 7 years AFTER King Henry VIII died, during the reign of Mary. He was imprisoned during the entire reign of Edward VI. I know The Tudors often takes liberty with history, but what was the point of that?

I loved the final episode. I cried. IMO, Jonathan Rhys Meyers deserves to win an Emmy for his portrayal of Henry VIII this season.

It was an amazing finale to a great series. I really think they should have done more to explain what happened to all the characters historically following the death of Henry VIII though.

Such as Henry's son Edward basically becoming a puppet king. His uncle Edward Seymour was de-facto King using the title Lord Regent since Edward was still a child and eventually died young.

And no mention of the fates of other key characters such as Thomas Cranmer who was executed during Mary's reign or Richard Rich who managed to keep his powerful positions at Court throughout the reigns of both Edward and Mary thanks to his clever ability of adapting to changes in the power structure/religion of England.

They really crammed a lot into this final season. I think the span of time they had to cover to get it wrapped up did a real injustice to some of the characters.

The complete absense of Thomas Cranmer stuck out for me. He was a very important character during throughout the latter part of Henry VIII's reign and didn't even make a cameo appearance in the final season.
