Default Why hasn't Dreamworks unleashed its secret weapon?

Gladiator. I don't see it out on HDDVD. Why do you think they have been holding back?

Why hasn't FOX release Star Wars?

The answer is because these titles command HUGE sales when released at the right time. Released in 2007, Gladiator would hope to get realistically 25k sales it's first week. Released in 2009, could see 1m sales it's first week.

No, but Spielberg is the co-founder of Dreamworks.

You've got KoH & BHD reversed.

This is no secret weapon, HD side has a ton of other movies that would spark more interest then gladiator. It's a good movie, certainly no secret weapon.

Perhaps they don't want to go through all the trouble of encoding it for hd dvd and then when it goes on sale still getting beat by blu catalogue.

To much at stake for more bad press.

Who knows... maybe it is the director (Ridley Scott) who is not permitting a realease on HD-DVD only. If so then, Cheers Ridley .

He seems to have no problem in releasing on Blu-Ray only, so far none of his have arrived on HD-DVD only. maybe it's grasping at straws, but actions speak louder than words. To be honest it would look better on Blu-ray!!!

it would be on blu ray. VERY appealing to the PS3 demographic, which by all accounts is THE biggest HDM demographic right now.

there are lots of great movies that have not been released to either yet.
Shrek 1 is not on HD DVD yet either...
but the way I see it is the fewer HD DVDs they release, the fewer HD discs they will have to re-release to Blu when they make the switch.

My thoughts exactly. It is too far gone for the studios to try to release these types of titles in hopes of prolonging the "pummeling"

to clear up any question ridley scott is very pro-blu.

there was a small, hd dvd exclusive distributor in europe who had the rights to KoH, Scott would not allow them to release it, unless they went neutral, they went neutral.

Maybe Scott insisted that the three hour movie fits on one disc with DTSHDMA, Dolby True-HD, DD5.1.... Let's see HD-DVD do that!!! Bit rate wud probably be 1-2 mbps....

I know I may be really ignorant about this, but does the director of a film really have that much pull? I mean, I see Speilberg for Dreamworks (co-founder), but I thought the format decisions would be up to the Executive Producers.... I don't know either way. I just didn't know the director had that much say about format releases.
