‘Van Helsing’ Series Picked Up By Syfy



Van Helsing, which begins production in January 2016 in Vancouver, BC for a fall 2016 premiere, centers on Vanessa Helsing, the daughter of famous vampire hunter and Dracula nemesis Abraham Van Helsing. She is resurrected five years in the future to find out that vampires have taken over the world and that she possesses unique power over them. She is humanity’s last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.

“Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules,” said Chad Oakes, Co-Chairman of Calgary-based Nomadic Pictures. “The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.”

Added Chris Regina, SVP, Program Strategy, Syfy,“Van Helsing reimagines a classic story in a compelling new way, featuring a bold and complex heroine.”

Van Helsing is produced by Nomadic Pictures. Executive Producers are Chad Oakes & Mike Frislev from Nomadic Pictures, LaBute, Simon Barry (Continuum), Evan Tyler (Industry Works), Dave Brown (Echo Lake Entertainment) as well as Daniel March (Dynamic). Nomadic Pictures will distribute the series within Canada, Fallout Asylum and Dynamic Television will distribute the series (initial window) in the United States and Dynamic Television will distribute the series throughout the rest of the world.

Why on earth would anyone invest ANY time into SyFy shows? They let 1/10 shows hAve an ending. Everything gets canceled there.

Van Helsing, a 13-episode sci-fi series from Nomadic Pictures (Fargo, Hell On Wheels), has been acquired by Syfy.

Fargo & HOW that is two solid television series! IMO

That's a separate thing where Universal is trying to make a shared cinematic monster universe. However, I don't think Cruise was anywhere close to being attached to that. He was just a name they dangled out there, like how Cruise and Theron were up for The Tourist but neither ended up signing.

Did anyone else watch the first episode that aired after sharknado 4?

I will watch the second episode when it eventually airs but I thought the first episode was not that good.

Had I know, I'd have watched it... but I stay as far from Sharknado junk as I can lol

I thought it was kind of funny though, this is basically the premise of Wynonna Earp but with a different historical/legendary figure and different monster they hunt. Wonder who they'll have a female descendant of for the zombie and werewolf shows
