Question regarding Panasonic UB450 or UB820

Hi

I am thinking about buying an UHD Player.

Since I am still using mainly my Full-HD projector (Sony HW55) I was wondering if the HDR Optimizer from the Panasonic UB820 would be an advantage
or if it doesn't matter because the projector can't show HDR anyway and I can save some quid and just buy the UB450.

The UB450 has an option to adjust between brightness/contrast (you sacrifice one for the other) when converting HDR to SDR. Might be worth looking for a UB420 which has the Optimizer (but doesn't have Dolby Vision support).

I'd agree with @chip75 The UB420 seems to fit your requirement very neatly.

The only caveat is that I think the Optimizer is disabled during HDR to SDR conversion, so whilst the 450 doesn't have the feature it does have some adjustability when you're watching with your projector.

I will try and check to see what the 420 does and report back.

I popped Blade Runner in my 420 on my 1080p Samsung, when you press the HDR Setting on remote, you get a message that it's only for HDR. A long press brings up some comprehensive Dynamic Range Adjustment settings.

So you get the HDR Optimiser, Dynamic Range Adjustment and DR Conversion Adjustment. It's pretty comprehensive if you're going to be converting. The 450 mentions Picture Mode and Picture Adjustment in the manual, but doesn't expand upon those features.

Much appreciated. Then I will definitely have a look at the 420 or even save a bit more for the 820 to be safe for the future regarding DolbyVision.
