The Saint (1997)

The Saint was a modest hit at the time of its release. It can receive a mixed response at times due to a variety of reasons - screenplay, acting, presenting a relatively different take on the Saint, not using the classic Volvo P1800, and so on.

The film has been among my favorites. Its soundtrack is awesome! I like the interactions b/w Kilmer and Shue. Kilmer's disguises are interesting. Shue looks good even when she has nothing to do. Nikolaev's portrayal of Tretaik is proactive at sensing danger and menacing. The theft and action sequences (esp. with the background score) are entertaining. Cold fusion and the Russian location in an alternate reality create a fairytale or magical realism atmosphere.

In a way, it is an unusual or a different type of film much like a V for Vendetta (2005) is for example.
