Default Hard Target 2 (Scott Adkins, Rhona Mitra, Robert Knepper) - Sept. 6, 2016

Quote:
Forced into a deadly cat-and-mouse game, a disgraced mixed martial arts fighter (Scott Adkins) is hunted through the jungles of Southeast Asia in Hard Target 2. It’s a no-holds-barred battle for survival through treacherous terrain inspired by John Woo’s hard-driving 1993 action-thriller.
Universal continues to push these straight-to-video unrelated sequels. This kind of business must be booming for them. Warner tried it under their Warner Premiere label and it didn't last very long.

Aside from the fact that this seems so unnecessary, Universal has a solid DTV unit and has been churning out some pretty fun stuff lately. And more Scott Adkins is always a good thing.

It'll probably be a fun time-killer, but nowhere near the quality of the Woo/JCVD original.

Haha! I like Rhona Mitra but this looks awful. He actually said "Hard Targets" in the trailer!!

That's usually how these things go.

Scott Adkins is a good player in the DTV action market, he has terrific fighting chops, especially showcased in his outings with Isaac Florentine (Ninja 1&2, Undisputed 3, Close Range - the last one was a crap movie but pretty good action). He was also decent with his acting in the surprisingly layered and brilliant Universal Soldier: The Reckoning. I'll definitely catch this movie, and I won't be comparing it to John Woo, especially considering John Woo himself hasn't made a noteworthy movie in some time.

I'd be curious to check it out. Adkins does have incredible fighting skills. That guy can fly with his kicks. Ninja is actually pretty underrated.

And the original American Ninja, Michael Dudikoff, is in this somewhere.

I don't want to get this, but...Rhona Mitra means that I have to give it a go. And it will at least be a halfway decent Blu-ray encode, even if the production values are garbage, so, it's a win-win, really.

I've seen most of Scott Adkins movies, and he's pretty darn good with his martial arts, and also do his own stunts. I think he's underrated, and he should be cast in more major theatrical releases as an A-List actor.

I thought he would have been great for the Iron Fist TV series.

I'm sure this will be an fairly decent DTV movie but i don't want to pay full price so i'll either wait for Netflix cause his stuff seems to usually end up on there at sometime or another or wait until a few people get around to seeing it first and then see what they say and get it but at an cheap price then.

Agree with the general sentiment that Scott Adkins is pretty underrated. I'll be checking this out for sure, guaranteed to be mindless action/martial arts entertainment, the best kind!

Interesting. I follow Dudikoff on Facebook and he's never given any indication that he's filmed something recently. If he is in this (IMDb has previously listed him in some other recent movies he wasn't in, like Olympus Has Fallen and I think even G.I. Joe: Retaliation), then I'll have to check it out. I liked Adkins in the Ninja movies and The Expendables 2. He's a helluva martial artist.

Saw the original in the theater. Wasn't that great. Kinda the beginning of the end for Van Damme.

Not at all. Hard Target was still during his upward swing working for Universal. Up next came Time Cop, his biggest hit. Hard Target is one of Van Damme's best, and only John Woo could make Van Damme look cool in that mullet.

Plus, it gave us probably Lance Henriksen's best turn as a bad guy.

Still need to pick up the original on Blu-ray but I wish they'd release the director's cut.
