Default Can I ?

Hi all, great forum by the way. I currently have a Samsung htib (HT-TX75) which does not sound bad but I know I am missing out on quality sound.

I would like to put together a decent home theater system over the next few months...$1500 - $2000 will be the price range.

I was wondering if I was to buy a receiver first (thinking Onkyo 605, maybe 805) would it be ok to hook it up to my htib speakers for the time being, untill I can afford some decent ones ?.

Cheers.

The Onkyo system in my sig is very very good for the money. Had it for 2 weeks now and it sounds great. The Receiver in it is the Onkyo 605.

They may sound good, but most speakers in those packages are usually meant for use with the reciever they came with. The reason I say this is the power output difference between recievers could cause them to distort which is what causes them to blow the speakers. If you plan on getting a new reciever make sure the speakers you do have are up to the task of the power handling capabilities.

Thanks for the replies, I know i should probably just wait a bit and buy it all together but I'm impatient when it comes to new toys.

Hell I had some KLH's before hooked up to a nice Pioneer receiver before. I think you'll be fine. Those speakers couldn't be any worse than KLH.

Or the receiver. What's the impedence of the speakers? What impedence will the receiver safely handle? Both pieces of info should be in the manuals. Driving typical HTIB 4 ohm speakers with a receiver that's designed to drive only 6-8 ohm loads is a sure way to damage a receiver.
