The 2016 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format still offers the best possible picture quality in 2020. Also lossless audio like 11.1 Imax Enhanced DTS X surround sound (and Imax Enhanced 7.1 DTS HD Master audio core).
A nice feature about the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format is that consumers only need to purchase a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player starting at $100+ and do not need to purchase a new display. One can use their old 480i,480P,720P,1080i, and 1080P display as long as it has a HDMI input (DVI to HDMI adapter for some very old displays also works). A new 4K Ultra HD display with HDR only needs to be purchased if consumers want to experience the best picture quality from the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs that they have purchased. While it is true that Roku Ultra and Direct TV offer lower bit rate 4K programming when compared to native 4K Blu-ray. There is another issue with using the Roku Ultra and a 4K Direct TV receiver. Both Roku Ultra and 4K Direct TV receivers require consumers to own a 4K display with HDCP 2.2 or higher in order to watch 4K programming. The Roku Ultra and 4K Direct TV receivers are not capable of down scaling 4K programming to 1080P or lower. But 100% of all 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players can downscale native 4K content to 1080P or lower. Therefore 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players are easier to use and more consumer friendly for consumers that own older equipment. |
