Default Windows 10 is another downgrade for those that own Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit Edit

Windows 10 is another downgrade for those that own Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit Edition

On July 29th 2015 Microsoft is going to release the new Windows 10 operating system. Microsoft is offering a free upgrade (or really a downgrade) to Windows 10 for those consumers that already own Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 using the Windows update feature. Since I have Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64 bit Edition installed, I became somewhat interested in getting the free Windows 10 update when its released. In the past all prior Windows operating system upgrades since Windows XP required a purchasing fee with a DVD-ROM disc for installation. Red flags are raised when I heard of a totally free upgrade.

Now today I have learned that if I do the upgrade (really a downgrade) to Windows 10, I will lose the ability to play DVD discs from Windows Media Player. In addition, I will no longer have Windows Media Center after the so called upgrade.

Windows 10 is really a downgrade instead of an upgrade. If Microsoft really wants to make improvements to Windows, they should add support for playing Blu-ray discs from either Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center. However instead consumers now lose Windows Media Center completely and lose the ability to play DVD discs from Windows Media Player.

The following is a select quote from the article

“Firstly there are the software losses. Most of these will only affect a small number of users, but upgrading will mean saying goodbye to Windows Media Center, the card game Hearts, and Windows 7's desktop gadgets. Anyone in the habit of using floppy disks on Windows will also have to install new drivers, and Microsoft warns that watching DVDs will also require "separate playback software."
