I just got an onkyo 605. I have polk r300s for fronts and polk r150's for surrounds. I ran the auto eq setup and it set all the speakers to full band and a subwoofer crossover to 80hz. I was wondering if it wouldn't be better to have at least the surrounds cut off at 80 hz?

as a start, crossover should be double the lowest frequency response of your fronts. adjust to match your tastes. if you are letting your receiver set the crossover, increase your subwoofers variable low pass (crossover) filter to it's highest value. do realise that by setting your fronts and surrounds to fullband you are sending bass frequencies to all them and the subwoofer.

For your set up 80hz would fine, in fact that is the THX recommended setting. I would however change the rears to small and try the fronts as small as well and see which sounds better.

I too have just purchased an Onkyo605 but with polkaudio RM700's. I'm curious to know how other people have set their systems up so I can compare with my own. I'm hearing a lot about crossover settings on the subwoofer and editting speaker sizes on the receiver. I've only played around with the equalizer so far and would love to know how others have set theirs too.

I did use the Audessey, but I felt like it needed more treble. Once you go into manual mode all the equalizer settings are set to 0. If I could find a way to keep the base the same (Audessey setting) but increase the treble myself, that would be great.

On the front of your 605 there is a button marked "Tone" you can change bass and treble there, I don't think it messes with the Audessey settings.

I just got my 605 the other day and I'm in the process of hooking it up. Does anyone with a 605 have any recommendations as to what kind of connector to get running between the 605 and the subwoofer? My sub has a line in, but I previously used speaker wires from the sub to the Amp and will be using the sub line now on the receiver. Will any standard AV single cable work or should I get something a bit better?
