Arrow Godzilla (2014)

Quote:
The towering star of countless Toho films and one Blue Oyster Cult song is possibly getting another big budget, American relaunch under the Legendary Pictures banner, the same fine folks who re-launched another languishing icon, Batman, for Warner Brothers in 2005. Could this be the film to launch Big G into the hearts and minds of a whole new generation of little big monster fans? Take a deep, irradiated breath and read more after the jump.

Details are scant at this point, but Bloody Digusting is reporting that Legendary is in talks to produce a new Godzilla reboot for American audiences. Godzilla’s cinematic history in the States has been tenuous at best over the last two decades. A Godzilla film was planned by Fred Dekker, of “Monster Squad” and “Night of the Creeps” fame in the late eighties, but was buried. The nineties saw a revived interest and a good script and even some early design work by Stan Winston delivered to Tri-Star before they ultimately decided to get in on some of that sweet “Independence Day” green and hired Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich to do a disaster movie version of the story. That film, referred to by some as GINO (Godzilla in Name Only), and referred to by me as “Godzilla Vs. Ferris Bueller”, went nowhere and even abandoned its sequel promise after a lackluster showing at the box office and a rejection by fans. When the toys on store shelves aren’t getting touched, you messed up.

So here we go again. Can a Godzilla work across the Pacific? Absolutely. There are amazing opportunities for amazing, one-of-a-kind visuals, and for a fun, breathtaking adventure movie; Godzilla fights other monster. That’s what makes Godzilla fun and gets people in the door. Let Godzilla be Godzilla. I’m talking radioactive breath and everything. Oh, and don’t make him overly sympathetic. I felt like I was watching “Old Yeller” at the end of Emmerich’s “Godzilla”. Keep all this in mind and with a good cast and solid filmmakers, this could be something special.

Oh, and don’t make him overly sympathetic. I felt like I was watching “Old Yeller” at the end of Emmerich’s “Godzilla”.
The JP Godzilla liked to fight...That was his antihero vibe.

GINO was just a poor misunderstood reptile, who couldn't understand why the army wouldn't let him run away..
As one critic put it, "This movie is two hours of a bull in a china shop."

I'm all for a Godzilla reboot, but I would like to see at least one other monster introduced as well.

This actually looks cool. I still don't know why the previous with Broderick wasn't that popular.

Are they going to stick with the old style Godzilla or the 1998 version?

It's a reboot, so I'm guessing we'll see the more traditional Godzilla.

YES!!! F***IN' A! GREEN SCAR, I LOVE YOU, MAN! This is some of the best news ever. Since Legendary Pictures does it's stuff with WB, Godzilla Raids Again aka Gigantis, the Fire Monster was released by WB back in 1959. Thank God Warner Bros is doing this, f*** Sony!

I enjoy seeing the JP Godzilla *****-slap the American Godzilla, in "Final Wars"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOISbaA2G18

(And you have to love the "tuna" line being in the original JP version:
WHAT was freakin' WITH the US movie's obsession with telling us he ate tuna?--We get it, already!! )

How I wish for a big budget new Japanese Godzilla. Well, the least I can do is give this US adaptation a chance, I guess.

I didn't have a problem with the new Monster in the American version.

It was the rest of the film and the crappy human characters that ruined it.

I still enjoy it as a popcorn flick though.

....and by the way everyone says the American version is crap but the Japanese have made plenty of crappy Godzilla movies too.

That includes Final Wars in which the american Godzilla has a "brief" cameo.

Final wars is utter crap....imho.

The american one is the best one easily. the japan ones are so silly unless u are a kid. some ugly monster looking like a dinosaur wannabe knockin down telephone polls in slow motion with people yelling all movie long lol. no plot at all, atleast the american had some type of story and plot. The Godzilla by far was way better than the any japan one as far as the monster itself

U obviously don't know what ur talking about. The JP one's u refer to that are for KIDS are the all those movie BEFORE The Godzilla REBIRTH movies like they did with Mothr Rebirth. If u look at the godzilla movies STARTING FROM Godzilla VS Biollante and UPPPPPPPPPPPP...those are all much more realistic than those whack movies b4 it. U r gonna tell me u can't compare Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla 2 (aka SUPER MECHA GODZILLA), VS Mecha King Ghidrah, VS Batra/Mothra...vs 2000, 01, 02???? U can't compare that to the old crap of godzilla vs sea monster, vs, megalon? THose looked like big puppet kids movies but the others didn't.

SEE right there u don't know nothin' about Godzilla. I have them all including the Zone fighters and ultra. THose are kid craps lol.

The original Godzilla had personality, the 1998 version missed that completely.

And if you don't like Godzilla you must be a Anti-American..

If this gets green lit I wonder if the Big G movies coming out on blu later this year will get delayed (yet again with the Sony/ Tri Star version).
