Paramount The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) coming soon from Paramount

Paramount will be releasing The Haunting of Bly Manor, The follow-up in Mike Flanagan's Haunting anthology (the first being The Haunting of Hill House). Release date is set for October 12th.

Quote:
From The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy comes THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR, the next highly anticipated chapter of The Haunting anthology series, set in 1980s England. After an au pair's tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor with the estate's chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve) and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T'Nia Miller). But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this chilling gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn't mean gone.

This one wasn't half as good as Hill House.

Yeah it was meh.

Check out The Innocents (1961) if you want a good adaptation of Henry James' The Turn of the Screw.

Glad it’s coming out, but I think I’ll skip it. Hill House was fantastic, this was just okay.

Watch The Innocents, everyone!

The Innocents is one of the best ghost movies ever.

This one wasn't even The Turn of the Screw. They ducked all of the most sick and horrifying part of the story and replaced it with a bunch of hollow ghost tropes and modern soap opera. It was actually more like Dementia 13 than it was like The Innocents. (and not in a good way at all.)

I enjoyed the series. It's nowhere near as good as Hill House in my opinion, but it kept me engaged well enough, and I really liked the atmosphere of it.

It probably helps to not know Turn of the Screw when you watch this one. It definitely helps to not know Jack Clayton's The Innocents.

While not as great as Haunting Of Hill House, any Netflix movie or series getting a physical release is to be applauded.

I agree with you. But I was massively disappointed with Bly Manor and would never watch it again. Hill House, however, is near perfection.

I thought both seasons were terrific. I might have preferred Bly Manor, actually, but then I like romanticism in general.

It's not a pet peeve or anything, just not a fan of the Ghost Movie trope of "the ghost is an invisible person". They explain it in Bly Manor...
[Show spoiler]you're not an "invisible person" for too long, the victims eventually lose their individuality, setting up the tragedy of the piece
...Episode 8 was my favorite, "The Romance of Certain Old Clothes".

Turn of the Screw was about possession of the innocents. The horror was in the subtle juxtaposition of innocence and depravity. Bly Manor appeared to be afraid to go there, so it manufactured a bunch of ensemble cast writer formulas to fill in the gaps.

Henry Thomas and Alex Essoe had pretty horrendous accents, IMO.
