The latest film from Costa-Gavras was released by Wild Side Video earlier this year.
I only found out about it's release a couple of weeks ago and being an English friendly disc decided to order it. Watched it last night and was really impressed. I know the quality of Costa-Gavras' films post Missing (1982) range from impressive (Amen, The Ax) to downright awful (Mad City) but I personally put this in the former. Maybe because the subject matter was so fresh to me: set in 2015 dealing with the Greeks Government's negotiation of debt with the EU. The main feature has English subtitles as does the 'making of' special feature. Other special features do not have English subtitles. The film is spoken in English, Greek, French and German. English subtitles only appear with non-English dialogue. Anyway, really happy to have this disc and it doesn't look like it is going to get much international exposure. If anybody wants me to check if the disc is Region A friendly please just respond to this post. |

If you could check if is Region A-friednly, that'd be great!
I've been considering ordering this. I've loved some of Costa-Gavras's films, but you're right, they're not all great. I saw a trailer for it when I was in Greece last year, and I have the score because I'm a big Desplat fan. |

It's a film I'm sort of interested in and nearly picked up in a 3-for-2 offer in my last Amazon.fr order, but I'm wary of it turning out to be a hagiography along the lines of Luc Besson's oops-that's-embarrassing-now The Lady. Yanis Varoufakis is one of those figures who you either buy into his own rather self-aggrandizing image of himself as the cool rockin'n'rollin' economics genius no-one is smart enough to listen to or dismiss as the guy who is constantly making excuses/shifting the blame for his own failures, and being based on his own book I can't see it being big on nuance.

I was only vaguely aware of Yanis Varoufakis because he has received a fair amount of publicity due to his Greek/Australian citizenship and what little a knew was from favourably views on him. The film is pretty scathing of the politics in which the EU functions. |

Another great Costa-Gavras. After viewing I felt that I understood the events covered in the film way better and understood how this issue was grossly misrepresented here in the UK and in other countries. And I went into the film without any real preconceptions about the people or situation involved. The release comes highly recommended!
