Default 'MLB: The Show' March 2021

MLB The Show no longer PlayStation exclusive post 2020 release

Quote:
We already knew MLB The Show 20 was on the way for PlayStation 4 in March 2020, but on Monday, the news Xbox fans have been waiting for finally arrive.

Per Sony and MLB, the MLB The Show series will no longer be a Sony exclusive, and the game is likely headed to Xbox and perhaps PC beginning in 2021. This expansion is a part of a new multi-year, multi-platform extension to Sony’s partnership with MLB and MLBPA.

Ever since the MLB 2K series was canceled in 2014, there hasn’t been a major baseball franchise available for Xbox, Nintendo or PC. Lesser titles like RBI Baseball couldn’t close the gap, and while the Super Mega Baseball series is fantastic, it’s not a simulation. If the MLB The Show series does land on the other consoles, it would become an automatic must-have for any baseball fans who exclusively own a Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

In fact, the potential PC version could be the most exciting. Most sports games launch a modding community once it hits PC, and depending upon the creations, the sport of baseball might have the most impressive mods.

Sony is stupid to release The Show on any other platform. That’s money they are going to lose. Makes no sense why Sony is fitting the bill and releasing it on Xbox or Nintendo.

It's odd. I have XB1, PS4 and Switch, but I've never brought myself to buy The Show on Ps4 because its our secondary/bedroom console. Xbox has always been my primary, and I'm psyched its going to have an authentic baseball game again.

The Shows been PlayStation exclusive since it started. Sony are idiots agreeing to that. If I was them I would give Xbox and the other systems a water down version and give PlayStation the best version. Sony are idiots financing a game they have to put on other systems

Yeah they are going to lose so much money being able to sell more copies of a series that was hardly a big system mover.

Why are people butt hurt over this? This is actually a good thing for Sony. They don't have to be out any additional money and get to profit from additional copies being sold, even if it is on another console. I am sure there are a lot of XB1 owners who do not have a PS4 that will buy the game.

I am sure not many people bought a PS4 just for a baseball game, so this move makes a ton of sense. People need to take a chill pill and calm down. The game will probably look better on XB1 anyway, at least until the PS5 comes out.

I guess I see both sides....

At first glance, it seems like Sony is dropping a major exclusive from the Playstation family - and they are. However, from a pure business standpoint, it's probably going to make them more money in the long run.

As far as what this means for the actual game...I hope that it doesn't cause issues and I hope that some of the stuff that those of us who are rabid fans of the game have been asking for, come to fruition. I'd love more customization - like the ability to create a franchise from the ground up and/or move to another city.

I have both a PS4 and XBOX1 and I play the vast majority of my games on my PS4. The only games on my XB1 are the Forza racing games.

Only time will tell if this is a good move for the actual game or not.

Interesting timing as MS gives Sony Minecraft cross-play. I think you need Xbox live account to sign in on PlayStation though.

I know a lot of people who buy a PlayStation to be able to play The Show. Yeah they are losing money cause ether have to pay Microsoft to put it on the Xbox plus Xbox gets a cut of every game sold on Xbox. I rather have a 100% cut of a product I’m putting my own money into then to cut it with the competition.

I bought a PS4 solely for The Show and then got hooked on other PS4 games and the system itself!

I am sure the number of people who bought a PS4 for the Show is nothing compared to those who bought one for Uncharted, God of War or even Spider-Man. Your complaining over something that actually benefits Sony. Their sales will more than likely remain the same for PS4 but now they get profits from additional copies being sold for XB1 that they wouldn’t have in the first place even if hey are being split between two companies.

Financially it makes sense for a sports game to not be console specific as the demographic for a sports game is limited to its fan base. I love baseball and have bought the Show every year but the sport is dwindling and interest for a baseball game is as well. MLB is doing anything they can to generate interest for their sport. Now someone who owns an XB1 can give the game a try who otherwise wouldn’t have.

It’s nice to see the game getting a bigger audience.

Who cares about cost. Are you paying for licensing?

That's not necessarily the case if its being mandated by MLB and MLBPA whats to say there not forking the bill for this to be on multiple platforms in 2021? This does not affect you in any way shape or form so not sure why you care so much about the game being on additional platforms.

Yeah the same developer will forget how to make a game because it will be on more than one system.

His argument makes no sense. Same company is going to make the game but now it's going to be crap because it will also appear on another console.

Sony is not going to purposefully make a bad game just because it will be on Xbox. The crap games that are on multiple consoles are developed and produced by third parties. Microsoft and Sony are not going to intentionally put out a game that does damage to their reputation.

SIE San Diego Studio is still behind the show not sure where your argument is leading SIE San Diego Studio will continue to make the game post 2020. How will SIE suddenly forget how to make the game just because they are now porting it to Xbox.

Now if you want to say the XboX port will be substandard despite Ps5 and Scarlett having near identical hardware because SIE has not developed for the Xbox that I will give you. Yes the port will probably have certain issues the PS5 version will most likely not have.

They make just as much money selling it on Xbox as they do on PS4, they will probably double the sales in 2021 and come out way ahead. I have not bought a baseball game in years, I'll be buying one in 2021

Microsoft gets a cut of every Xbox game that gets sold. It’s not smart for Sony to be putting a game that they are financially backing themselves on Xbox. Sony’s the one who’s paying for the MLB license not Xbox. No way would I do something that makes the competition money regardless of how much it makes me. Sony should have discontinued The Show series and let someone start making baseball games. Sony owns the The Show franchise not MLB. So if Sony decides not to make another Show game then no one else can name their game that unless they buy the rights to the name from Sony. Sony built this franchise and only them and MLB should benefit from it.
